Speaker Introduction

Prof. Dong Baobao, is a doctoral supervisor at Jilin University. He is a Doctor of Technology Economics and Management, Postdoctoral in Management Science and Engineering, Visiting Scholar of Old Dominion University, Communication Review Expert of National Natural Science Foundation, Communication Project Evaluation Expert of Ministry of Education, China Postdoctoral Fund Review expert, expert reviewer of the Ministry of Education, chief editor of  World Research Journal of Entrepreneurship and Business, reviewer of Journals International Journal of Business Administration, IEEE Transactions on Cybernetics, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Management among others. He has published more than 40 papers in top-level management research journals such as Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Journal of Business Research, Management World, China Industrial Economy, Management Journal, and Scientific Research Management. He also won various awards for his excellent academic achievement.

Lecture Content

Social network is an important tool for new ventures to overcome the “new born disadvantages”, but social network embedding has a dual nature: it can help new ventures to obtain resources, but also needs to pay for the maintenance of network structure. Improper structure embedding may cause new ventures to pay more than the benefits and bring negative effects. Moreover, when a startup business that has financial difficulties cannot meet the needs of the network connection party or the consumer, it will cause dissatisfaction of the other party, resulting in a decrease in market legitimacy and negative performance. This lecture will take the research on the relationship between the embedded structure of performance and the inverted U-shaped relationship of new ventures, analyze the mechanism of social network’s influence on the performance of new ventures, and then explore the application of the frontier issues of social network research in new ventures and the statistical analysis methods of regulatory variables.
