ESI (Essential Science Indicators) is an analytical tool constructed by world-renowned academic information publishing agency ISI to evaluate the performance of scientific research and track the trend of science development. Based on quantitative analysis database established by Thomson Reuters SCIE/SSCI consisting of over 10 million literature records from more than 12,000 academic journals, ESI has been adopted universally to evaluate university, academic institutions, and state and region academic level. “For Hot Papers, only papers published in the last 2 years are considered. Hot Papers are receiving citations quickly after publication. These papers have been cited enough times in the most recent bimonthly period to place them in the top 0.1% when compared to peer papers. Highly Cited Papers are papers that have received enough citations in the last 10 years to place them in the top 1% when compared to all other papers published in the same year in the same field.” As one of criteria to evaluate Double First-rate university, ESI is attached much importance by all universities as a third-party evaluation indicator.
