YSU wins awards in 2019 “Challenge Cup” College Student Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition


[News from the News Center] Several days ago, the final of 2019 “Challenge Cup” College Student Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition ended at Northeastern University at Qinhuangdao. YSU wins 4 special prizes, 11 first prizes, 11 second prizes, and 3 third prizes; besides, 3 teachers were awarded the Provincial Excellent Instructor and YSU the Provincial Prize for Best Organization.

The four works that win the special prizes are as follows. The “Higher Load-bearing Soft-bodied Gripping Device Based on the Bionic Winding Effect” draws on the winding behavior of animals and plants, and innovatively proposes a bionic winding soft-bodied gripping device, which can realize non-destructive grasping of various objects in different shapes, and hasstrong safety in human-machine cooperation. Besides flexibility and safety, soft-bodied robots have been significantly improved in load capacity, application field, and operational capability. The “Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Recycling Platform Based on Six Degrees of Freedom Parallel Adjusting Mechanism” proposes a total solution for the UAV supporting service technology, and provides a new idea for solving the problems of poor UAV low-altitude taking-off and landing stability, short battery life, outdoor charging difficulties and inconvenient supervision.“Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) Optical Home Position Sensor and Online Monitor” is specific to the problems in the current national standard method for COD measurementwhich is, for example, time-consuming, of high operating cost, easily causing secondary pollution, and cannot be continuously monitored for a long time. The spectroscopy-based COD sensor makes it possible to monitor the home position of COD online with wide application range, and high measurement accuracy.“Research on the Current Development and Countermeasuresof General Education in Chinese Universities”, by analyzing the dilemma of general education, proposes new models and constructs a two-way evaluation mechanismaiming to break the obstaclesin its development, reform the talent training mode in colleges and universities, improve the quality of teaching and practical utility, and further promote the construction and development of general education courses in colleges and universities.

The competition received more than 2,000 works from 71 colleges and universities in Hebei Province, of which 1,208 were approved and about 200 works eventually entered the final. The achievements of the extracurricular scientific and technological innovations of YSU students reflect their style of hard work, being innovative and diligence in practice. Besides, it demonstrates the innovative ability and scientific research level of young students, and helps to further promote the campus culture and culture and cultivateinnovative talents in the new era.
