[News from the News Center] On Nov. 22, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) released the list of the newly-elected CAS academicians in 2019. 64 academicians and 20 foreign academicians were elected according to its statutes and regulations. YSU alumnus Duan Guangren was elected as an academician of CAS Division of Information Technology Sciences.

DuanGuangren, one of the IEEE Fellows, IET Fellows, Changjiang Scholars, and National Distinguished Young Scholars, graduated from the Northeast Heavy Machinery Institute (YSU) in applied mathematics in 1983. In 1991, he was promoted to professor of Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT). He is now the director of HIT Center for Control Theory and Guidance Technology, the leader of the MOE Changjiang Scholar Innovation Team, the head of the Innovation Project of the Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), the head of a major contract project of the 12th Five-Year Plan for a major special research of China, and the head of the major project of NSFC, who won the China Youth Science and Technology Award and National Outstanding Science and Technology Workers Award. So far, Duan Guangren has served as member of the National Defense Expert Group of the Science and Technology Commission of the Central Military Commission, member of the National Aeronautics and Astronautics Expert Group of the National High-tech R&D Program (863 Program),member of the Information Division of the Science and Technology Commission of MOE, Executive Director of the Chinese Association of Automation (CAA), Deputy Director of the Technical Committee on Control Theory of CAA, Deputy Director of Society of Intelligent Aerospace System of the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence. He has won two second prizes of the National Natural Science Awards (the first place), published more than 270 SCI papers, three books in English, and translated one book, and one of his books in Chinese won two national prizes. Besides, Duan has supervised 2 doctoral dissertations that are among the top 100 ones nationwide as well as 59 doctoral students, and 65 master students. Among them one has been IEEE Fellow, Changjiang Scholar, and won National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and two have received funding from the National Outstanding Youth Science Foundation.
