[News from the News Center] From June 4th to 6th, YSU’s three majors were examined by expert group from China Engineering Education Accreditation Association (CEEAA). The majors examined are Mechanical Design Manufacturing and Automation and Material Processing and Control Engineering of School of Mechanical Engineering, and Electronic Information Engineering of the School of Information Science and Engineering.

On the morning of June 4th, YSU President Liu Hongmin, Vice president Zhao Yongsheng, other leaders from related departments and Schools, representatives of professional teacher, and persons in charge ofthe preparation attended the meeting for examination. Liu Hongmin and Zhao Yongsheng introduced the expert group the importance and support of YSU for accreditation and the related situation of comprehensive reform of personnel training model based on the OBE education concept. They mentioned that YSU has attached great importance to the accreditation and strongly supported it by strengthening the construction of accreditation and forming a good atmosphere for related work.YSU also takes this accreditation as a good opportunity to promote teaching reform and strengthen development of majors and disciplines. For example, YSU has implemented a comprehensive reform of the talent cultivation model based on the OBE education concept within the whole school, reorganized the training objectives and graduation requirements, and developed talentcultivation in accordance with the accreditation standards.. The expert group listened to the reports made by the leaders in charge of the three disciplines, which were focused on the construction of a student-centered teaching system, practical teaching reforms, and the evaluation of course objectives and graduation ability. Teacher representatives of the three accredited majors, leaders of the Schools and related departments carefully answered and explainedthe questions proposed by the expert group on the development of non-technical competence, implementation of project-based teaching, indicators and assessment of graduation requirements, improvement of teaching capacity, support for teaching expenses and other issues.
After the meeting, the expert group visited YSU engineering training center, physics experiment center, electronic experiment center, library and professional laboratory. During the three-day on-site inspection, the expert group reviewed YSU teaching materials and teaching management documents such as professional training programs, curriculum syllabus, internship report, graduation design, and course teaching quality evaluation materials. The expert group also conducted in-depth interviews with management personnel, current students, graduates, and employers to understand the situation of the training of three accredited disciplines.

On the morning of June 6th, Liu Hongmin and Zhao Yongsheng, other leaders from related departments and Schools, representatives of professional teacher, and persons in charge of the preparation work attended the meeting for feedback. At the meeting, the expert group gave feedback on the field inspection of the three disciplines, strongly affirmed the work of YSU in terms of teaching reform and this accreditation, and put forward suggestions on the problems in training objective publicity, the support of graduation requirements for training objective, students’ ability to solve complex engineering problems and non-technical competences, course assessment methods, and standard settings, etc. YSU participants listened to the feedback carefully. Liu Hongmin and Zhao Yongsheng thanked the expert group for their hard work on behalf of YSU, and they believed that the feedback from the experts was accurate, comprehensive, objective, pertinent, and practical, and required related Schools and departments fully comprehend the suggestions, unite their thoughts, raiseawareness, and carry out rectification work in a down-to-earth manner. Every unit is hoped to take this professional accreditation as an opportunity to further develop professional characteristics and strengths, strengthen the construction of weak links and strive to improve the quality of personnel training.
