Yanshan University is a nationally recognized key university jointly established by the People’s Government of Hebei Province, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. It is also a prominent member of the Cooperation Consortium of Beijing High Technology Universities.

Its administration was transferred from Ministry of Machinery Industry to Hebei Provincial Government and was co-administrated by the central and local government, in which the latter plays the principal role.
2016
As one of the two universities selected by the Ministry of Education, YSU’s engineering majors received the assessment exercises from the international experts of Washington Accord, which supported China to formally join in Washington Accord International Engineering Education Organization. YSU’s 11 engineering majors have achieved the certification of Engineering Education Organization, which indicates that the quality of education in these professions has been internationally recognized and ranked among top universities in global engineering education.

With an total ground area of 266.67 hectares and a building area of 1.25 million square meters, the university has 40,000 undergraduate students and 3,200 faculty and staff, including 2,200 full-time teachers. Among them are 568 professors and 678 associate professors, with 528 serving as doctoral supervisors. The faculty includes 3 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 2 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 1 member of the discipline appraisal group of the State Council, 7 distinguished professors from the Ten-thousand Talents Program, and 28 recipients of the China National Funds for Distinguished Young Scientists.

Disciplines
Yanshan university has 12 postdoctoral stations, 14 doctoral first-level disciplines, 3 doctoral degree categories, 30 master’s first-level disciplines, 19 master’s degree categories, and 73 undergraduate majors, forming a disciplinary pattern of common development in 9 categories including engineering, economics, law, education, literature, science, management, arts, and interdisciplinary studies. It has 5 national key disciplines, and 16 provincial key disciplines, with 5 disciplines including engineering, materials science, chemistry, computer science and environmental science and ecology entering the top 1% of ESI rankings globally, among which the engineering discipline has entered the top 1‰. In the fifth round of discipline assessment, YSU has made breakthrough progress. The disciplines of mechanical engineering and materials science and engineering have ranked among the top in Chinese universities, and some disciplines have achieved cross-level improvements.

YSU has built the State key laboratories: the State Key Laboratory of Metastable Materials Science and Technology, the National Key Laboratory of Lifting machinery Key Technology, the National Engineering Research Center for Equipment and Technology of Cold Strip Rolling, the National-Local Joint Engineering Research Center for Advanced Manufacture Forming Technology and Equipment, the National Innovation Talent Training Demonstration Base, the International Science and Technology Cooperation Base, the Provincial-Ministerial Joint Innovation Center, the National Technology Transfer Demonstration Institution, 4 Key Laboratories and Engineering Research Centers of the Ministry of Education, 69 provincial-ministerial science and technology innovation platforms and 26 provincial-ministerial social science research bases. It also has a national university science and technology Park and Yanshan University Press.
International Exchange
