YSU's 9 majors honored Top Majors of Global Engineering Education

[News from the news center]Recently, the MOE has announced a list of universities, 846 engineering majors in 198 Chinese universities and colleges have passed professional certificationaccording to the statisticsbythe end of 2017. These majors were honored top majors of global engineering education. 9 majors of our university wereselected, which ranked 25th in national universities.

Passing the certification means that the relevant education schemesachieve substantial international equivalence and the quality of education has gained international recognition. Graduates who apply for qualifications for engineering practice or apply for postgraduate degrees in relevant countries and regions under the Washington Accords will be treated as local graduates. At the same time, the certification results will be highly authoritative in the industry and in the enterprise. Graduates also have varying degrees of exemption and benefits in terms of taking some engineer qualification examination.

YSU attaches great importance to professional certification work, vigorously supports all majors to participate in the certification and provides full support in application, professional construction, preparation for the experts’ review and field examination. YSU also provides funds for curriculum development, teaching reforms, learning outside, and making some favorable policies supporting the certification work in order to guarantee the certification work going smoothly.

Our school started professional certification work in 2012 and used this work as a good opportunity to promote teaching reform and strengthen professional development. We implemented a comprehensive reform of the education model based on the OBE educational concept and standardized various teaching activities. The awareness of establishing teaching standards is raised and the development of teaching quality standards is underway. In recent years, YSU has actively carried out relevant seminars and forums centering some objects that are re-design the teaching and learning objectives and graduation requirements, and conducting education scheme in accordance with certification standards. Apart from concentrating on the development of students' professional knowledge and ability, YSU also attaches great importance to the ability of engineering practice, team coordination, lifelong learning, all-round potentials and international communication, which contributes to the development of curriculum, the improvement of teaching quality and the recognition of graduates.

In 2016, the majors of Materials Forming and Control Engineering and Electronic Information Engineering were selected by MOE and accepted an on-site inspection by international observers, which contributes China’s formal participation in the “Washington Accords” International Engineering Education Organization. YSU’s professional accreditation organization work has not only been highly spoke by the committee of the “Washington Accords” organization, but also been given strong affirmation by the Ministry of Education Higher Education Teaching Evaluation Center.
