[News from the News Center] On Aug. 23, Weng Tiehui, member of the Party Group and Vice Minister of the Ministry of Education(MOE),Xu Weiqing, Deputy Director of the Office of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee and Deputy Director of the Department of Degree Management and Postgraduate Education of MOE, visited YSU for field research, as well as Luan Zongtao, Director of the Academic Degrees Division of the Department of Degree Management and Postgraduate Education of MOE, and Jiao Jiangfang, Director of the Treatment and Social Security Division of the Department of Teacher Education. Yang Yong, Secretary ofHebei Provincial Education Committee and director of Hebei Education Department, Wang Tingshan, Deputy Director of Hebei Education Department, Zhao Qingyun, researcher ofthe Office of the Hebei Provincial Academic Degrees Committee, Zhao Xianfeng, YSU Party Secretary, Zhao Dingxuan, YSU President, Huang Sheng, YSU Deputy Party Secretary, and Wang Desong, YSU Vice President, attended the activities.
YSU held a meeting at the first reception room, the Century Building, which was presided over by Zhao Xianfeng. Yang Yong gave a speech at the meeting. Yang gave a brief introduction to the current situation of higher education in Hebei Province, especially the enrollment of graduate students, and he hoped that the MOE would support the higher education in Hebei Province and the development of YSU. Zhao Dingxuan made a report on the history, development, achievements, platform construction, faculty, political education, party building, our efforts on becoming a “Double first-class” university, and other future goals.

Weng Tiehui said that it is required to implement all measures and pay attention to the needs at the primary level. She pointed out that the visit and research made her believe that YSU is a university with a distinctive academic features, accurate university-running orientation, and outstanding achievements. Besides, it is a century-old university with fine traditions and strengths and has made great contributions to the development of the nation and machinery industries.
Weng Tiehui put forward specific requirements for the next step of YSU. First, we should strengthen moral education and cultivate people and comprehensively improve the quality of personnel training, especially the quality of undergraduate education, and we should improve the quality of postgraduate education, explore different training modes of academic degrees and professional degrees, and find the right growth points of science and technology. Second, we should stick to the fine thinking and the characteristics, and try to make more top achievements in the first-class disciplines. The next round of “Double first-class” evaluation will be promising for those universities and colleges with characteristics and strength. Third, we should strengthen the system of discipline management and governance mechanism, identify the comparative advantages of the city, introduce excellent talents, and make fit the resource allocation and the discipline layout. Weng also gave targeted guidance on the difficulties and problems encountered in the development of the university and put forward requirements for further work.

Xu Weiqing said that YSU has great influence in the special machinery industry, and many talents, platforms and scientific research achievements of Hebei Province are from YSU. Thus, YSU should keep and develop its own characteristics and make more achievements, which is an important foundation and prerequisite for gaining further support. Next, the Department of Degree Management and Postgraduate Education of MOE will also implement the requirements and take various measures to support the development of YSU.
At the meeting, Zhao Xianfeng expressed his position on behalf of YSU leading group that YSU will conscientiously implement the guidelines of Weng Tiehui’s speech and her instructions and live up to their care for YSU. YSU will continue to cultivate outstanding talents for the party and the country, produce top original scientific research results, and accelerate the “Double first-class” construction.

At the Metastable Materials Science and Technology State Key Laboratory, Prof. Tian Yongjun, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, gave a detailed introduction to the team composition, research direction and major research results of the team. Weng Tiehui visited the spherical aberration correction transmission electron microscope of Prof. Huang Jianyu’s team. Weng Tiehui expressed her appreciation for the achievements of the laboratory and conducted in-depth exchanges with Prof. Tian and Prof. Huang on some specific research directions.
At the National and Local Joint Engineering Research Center for Advanced Manufacture Forming Technology and Equipment, Prof. Liu Xingang, Director of the Center, introduced in detail to Wen Tiehui the development, outstanding alumni and major research results of the center.
