Major National Research Instrument Development Project of Yanshan University Approved for the First Time

21 Nov , 2021

[News Center] The major national research instrument development project "Grain Boundary Remelting and Re-solidification Device of Metallic Materials under Electric Pulse and Pressure" declared by Professor Liu Riping of Yanshan University (YSU) was recently funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) with a direct fund of CNY 8.5 million. This is the first time that YSU has been funded to conduct NSFC’s major research instrument development project, and it is also YSU’s another major historical breakthrough in research.

The project is independently undertaken by YSU with a duration of 5 years. With the urgent need for performance optimization of some metal parts in such fields as aerospace, transportation, nuclear power, the project aims to develop a device for grain boundary remelting and re-solidification of metallic materials under electric pulse and pressure. The device will adjust the interfacial state, form a multi-scale structure and significantly improve the overall performance. With high universality, this device is not only applicable to the research of scientific problems related to grain boundaries, but also contributes to solving some core problems in the field of metallic materials in China.

The major national research instrument development program is NSFC’s major symbolic program. It is aimed for the frontiers of science and national needs, directed by scientific objectives, and intended for strengthening top-level designs, identifying key development directions, encouraging and cultivating the development of creative and exploratory research instruments, focusing on the development of original major research apparatus, and providing more novel means and tools for scientific research, so as to comprehensively enhance China's initial innovation capability. This project is YSU’s another major symbolic research achievement this year, which fully reflects YSU’s level and status in basic scientific research, and has great significance for comprehensively supporting the construction of YSU into a "double first-class" and research university.
