The 16th China Conference on Knowledge Graph and Semantic Computing Organized by Yanshan University

[Press Center] The 16th China Conference on Knowledge Graph and Semantic Computing (CCKS), sponsored by the Technical Committee on Language and Knowledge Computing of the Chinese Information Processing Society of China and organized by Yanshan University, was held in Qinhuangdao from August 24 to 27. The conference was held both online and offline, and attended by over 500 experts, scholars, teachers and students from universities, research institutes and industrial circles.

On the morning of August 26, the opening ceremony was held in the International Conference Center of Grand Hotel Qinghuang, which was presided over by Xu Bin, Chairman of the Conference Procedure Committee, with speeches delivered by Li Gouqiang, Deputy Mayor of Qinhuangdao City, Zhao Xianfeng, Secretary of the Party Committee of Yanshan University, Sun Le, Secretary-General of the Chinese Information Processing Society of China, Li Juanzi, Director of the Technical Committee on Language and Knowledge Computing, and Qi Guilin, Chairman of the conference.

On behalf of Yanshan University, Zhao Xianfeng extended a warm welcome and sincere thanks to domestic and foreign experts, scholars, teachers and students present. He introduced the history of Yanshan University and its achievements in discipline construction and technological innovation in recent years, and retrospected the profound historical relationship between Yanshan University and CCKS. He said that Yanshan University would cherish this precious opportunity to play an active part in exchanges between academic and industrial circles, and work hand in hand with all parties to promote the development of knowledge graph-enabled digital economy and further boost the “double-first-class” construction of the university.

Three researchers famous at home and abroad were invited in the Invited Talk, including Academician Sun Maosong of Tsinghua University, Professor Hong-gee Kim, CIO of Seoul National University, and Professor Mark Steedman of the School of Information, University of Edinburgh. Their lectures were entitled Central Challenges and Opportunities Facing Natural Language Processing, Data-Centric University and Inference in Open-Domain Question-Answering.

In the context of epidemic prevention and control, this conference successfully accomplished all of reporting topics through synchronous online and offline communications, and was well recognized by online and offline participants. During the conference, the School of Information Science and Engineering (School of Software) of Yanshan University teamed up as a volunteer troop and well performed services including check-in, reception, news propaganda, information consultation, and epidemic prevention in order to support the success of the conference. Yanshan University won the Outstanding Contribution Award for Organizer, and a number of teachers from the volunteer troop won the Outstanding Contribution Award.

Centering on the theme of "knowledge graph enabling digital economy", this conference aims to explore the key technologies of language understanding, knowledge acquisition, knowledge fusion and knowledge inference in the process of digital industrialization and industry digitization, so as to drive innovative applications with knowledge, speed up the construction of digital society, create a good digital ecology, and build “Digital China”. Scholars from all over the country made deep exchanges and discussions at the conference and presented a feast for academic circles.

During the conference, the Information Sub-forum of Young Scholar Forum 2022 was held by the Office of Human Resources and the School of Information Science and Engineering (School of Software) of Yanshan University and was attended by young scholars from 11 universities. It has laid a sound foundation for more young scholars engaged in information science to learn about and choose Yanshan University for further exchanges and cooperation.
