Topic: Carve the Rotten Wood to Continue Its Life

Time:7:00pm, May 18th(Thursday), 2017

Venue: B105, Art Gallery, West Campus

Lecturer: Bingming Sun

About the lecturer:

Born in Cangzhou, Hebei Province, Bingming Sun (Lao Bing) graduated with Master Degree from College of Fine Arts, Hebei Normal University in 1999. He is a member ofthe Art Display & Decoration Committee of China, Hebei Artists Association, and Hebei Watercolor and Gouache Painting Research; and also a Director of Intangible Cultural Heritage Committee. He is associate professor, Master thesis supervisor, and Head of the Department of Integrated Painting, School of Arts and Design, YSU. In 2009, he established Rotten Wood Studio (Material Art) which he is in charge of. He mainly studies traditional materials, such as wood, leather, and metal. Since materials play a decisive role in the appreciation of art works, art works are not only their artistic property, but also the characteristics and spirits of materials. To exert the perceptual charm and expressive tension of materials, the tradition and art, spirit and culture in them should be explored. In recent years, China has been promoting "Cultural and Creative Industries".The current designs about Chinese traditional culture by college students are only concerned about the cultural property of the works, but almost no attention is paid to the cultural property of the material itself, so the studio cultivates students’awareness and perception for traditional materials.

All teachers and students are welcomed.
