YSU Professor Zhao Zhisheng Receives 18th China Youth Science and Technology Award

On November 17, the 18th China Youth Science and Technology Award Ceremony was held at the World Young Scientist Summit 2024. After evaluation, Professor Zhao Zhisheng from the YSU State Key Laboratory of Metastable Materials Science and Technology was honored with the 18th China Youth Science and Technology Award. He is the sole recipient from Hebei Province this year. This achievement marks the second time for YSU to receive the award, 36 years after it was first awarded in 1988.

Zhao Zhisheng, Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at YSU, primarily engaged in research on superhard materials and structural ceramics. He has led numerous projects, including those funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (such as the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, the Key Programs, the Excellent Young Scientists Fund), the National Key Research and Development Program of China, the Distinguished Young Scientists Fund of the Natural Science Foundation of Hebei Province, the Hundred Talents Program, and the Yanzhao Young Scientists Program. Professor Zhao has won the 2024 Tan Kah Kee Young Scientist Awards, as well as the First Prize and the Second Prize in the Hebei Provincial Natural Science Awards as the key contributor. He has published over 160 papers in journals, such as Nature, Nat Mater, Natl Sci Rev, Nat Commun, Sci Adv, Matter, PNAS, PRL, JACS, Nano Lett, and ACS Nano; and has 17 authorized American, Japanese and European patents, as well as 16 Chinese invention patents. His research results have been highlighted and introduced in reports by Nature, Science, People’s Daily, Xinhua News Agency and the committee of National Natural Science Foundation of China.

Established in 1987, the China Youth Science and Technology Award is for young scientific and technological professionals across the country. Initiated by senior scientists including Qian Xuesen, the Award is jointly sponsored by the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, China Association for Science and Technology, and the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League. Its purpose is to recognize and reward young scientific and technological talents who have made remarkable contributions to China’s economic growth, social development, and sci-tech innovation. The Award aims to cultivate a new generation of young academic and technological pioneers at the forefront of global science and technology. Notably, the Award is presented every two years to a maximum of 100 recipients each time.
