Founded in 1945 in Gliwice, Poland, Silesian University of Technology is one of the best universities of science and technology in Poland. It has nearly 70 years of successful experience in education, R & D and industrial cooperation, and has particular advantages in science and engineering. The Upper Silesia region where Silesian University of Technology is located has historically been a traditional industrial zone in Poland. In recent years, the Upper Silesia region has actively carried out industrial transformation and established the Katowice Special Economic Zone, which has become one of the most successful special economic zones in Europe. In the ranking of world economic zones by Foreign Direct Investment in 2019, Katowice Special Economic Zone ranked second in the world. Silesian University of Technology has now the closest ties with the regional industrial development, and boasts the richest experience in university-enterprise cooperation. The University opened the first double-track university-enterprise joint training program in Poland, which aims to support and encourage students to participate in the practice of enterprises and factories in the region during their school study, so as to sharpen their professional knowledge and production experience. In particular, by establishing intimate cooperation with Fiat, Opel, IBM, Siemens and other international well-known enterprises, the University has built and provided a platform for students to become high-end talents, and also made Katowice Special Economic Zone a highly modern region housing high-end modern companies.

 

Katowice features a temperate continental humid climate that transits from oceanic climate to continental climate, similar to the urban environment in the north of China. The seasonal changes create unique natural sceneries. The average temperature  is – 5~11 ° C in January, and 16~19 ° C in July. Katowice is a livable place in spring and autumn without harsh or extreme weather.
