On the afternoon of September 28, Scott J. Chiverton, Director of the Regional English Language Office of the U.S. Embassy in China and his entourage visited Yanshan University (YSU), accompanied by 3 officers including Lu Xu from the Foreign Affairs Office of the Qinhuangdao Municipal People's Government. Lu Jun, Director of the International Cooperation Office of YSU, Zhao Chunmei, Deputy Director of the Academic Affairs Office, Zheng Zhanguo, Deputy Dean of the School of Foreign Studies, and Scott J. Chiverton and his entourage held a discussion and exchange in the Conference Room 2102 of the Century Building.

Entrusted by YSU, Lu Jun briefed Scott J. Chiverton and the leaders of the Municipal Foreign Affairs Office on the historical evolution, overall situation and international cooperation and exchanges of YSU, and emphatically reported the results of exchanges between YSU and the University of Toledo and other American universities and the progress of the Yanshan University Toledo College under construction; Zhao Chunmei and Zheng Zhanguo introduced the English courses and foreign language majors at YSU. Scott J. Chiverton congratulated YSU for its achievements in international cooperation and exchanges and foreign language talent training, and introduced the English Language Scholar Program and English Expert Program provided by the Regional English Language Office of the U.S. Embassy in China, as well as the online resources developed during the epidemic, such as English vocational education online platform. Chiverton hoped to help teachers and students of YSU expand the platform of exchange with the United States, improve the level of English communication of teachers and students, and promote the mutual understanding and cultural mutual learning between China and the United States.
The Regional English Language Office of the U.S. Embassy in China, where Director Scott J. Chiverton works, was established in 2007 and is mainly responsible for English teaching programs in China and Mongolia. Each year, the office selects more than 20 foreign teachers and dispatches them to China to carry out teaching programs related to English teaching.
