On the afternoon of September 8, the Unveiling Ceremony and the First Undergraduates’ Opening Convocation of the Silesian College of Intelligent Science and Engineering, Yanshan University were held in the Concert Hall of West Campus. Due to the epidemic, Wojciech Zajaczkowski, Polish Ambassador to China, Arkadiusz Mężyk, President of Silesian University of Technology in Poland, and Hou Jianguo, Second-level Inspector of Hebei Department of Education attended the ceremony online. Zhao Xianfeng, CPC Secretary of YSU, Zhao Dingxuan, Deputy CPC Secretary and President of YSU, Chen Guoqiang, CPC Standing Committee Member and Vice President of YSU and Dean (concurrently) of the Silesian College of Intelligent Science and Engineering, and the directors of relevant departments of YSU attended the ceremony on the site, together with representatives of faculty members and students. Wojciech Zajaczkowski delivered a video speech for the unveiling ceremony. He extended a warm welcome to all the freshmen who applied for the Silesian College of Intelligent Science and Engineering, Yanshan University, and put forward deep expectations for them. He expressed the hope that all the students would encounter interesting challenges, broaden their horizons and live a fruitful life in the Silesian College of Intelligent Science and Engineering.

Hou Jianguo said that the four specialties offered by the Silesian College of Intelligent Science and Engineering focus on the two frontier directions of "artificial intelligence" and "intelligent manufacturing", which are required not only for the strategy of country, but also for the industrial intelligent transformation and upgrading in Hebei Province. He put forward four hopes for the development of the college that both universities would continue to deepen cooperation in teaching and scientific research; constantly enrich the types and levels of education; continuously deepen the integration of industry, university and research and establish a model Chinese-foreign cooperative education institute in Hebei Province and even the whole country as soon as possible.

After the unveiling ceremony, the first undergraduates’ opening convocation was held. Arkadiusz Mężyk delivered a video speech, and he mentioned that the universities will provide high-quality enlightenment education for everyone, and students will benefit from the interactive teaching mode provided by world-class scholars and outstanding international teachers from YSU and the Silesian University of Technology in the fields of mechanical design & manufacturing and automation, automation, software engineering, electronic science and technology. He expressed the hope that students would achieve fruitful study achievements under this cooperative education mode.

Ma Xiangyuan, a student majoring in Mechanical Design & Manufacturing and Automation in Class 2022, spoke as a freshman representative. He said that they are not only the first undergraduates of the college, but also the pioneers, settlers and pathfinders of the new mode of Sino-foreign cooperation in education at YSU, bearing special responsibilities and missions. He said that the first undergraduates of the college will stick to their initial intentions, cherish their dreams, explore infinite possibilities, and dedicate their youth and blood to promote the Sino-foreign cooperation in education at YSU to be recognized internationally.

Liu Xueqiang, a teacher representative from the specialty of Electronic Science and Technology, said in his speech that as a professional teacher, he will insist on treating teaching with initial heart, enthusiasm and perseverance, and be student-oriented and concentrate on studying; adhere to the OBE concept as a guide, and constantly improve students' ability to analyze and solve problems. He expressed the hope that the freshmen would learn something, achieve something in the Silesian College of Intelligent Science and Engineering, and live up to their youth and times.

On behalf of YSU, Zhao Dingxuan expressed heartfelt congratulations and warm welcome to the first undergraduates of the college. He said that the establishment of the Silesian College of Intelligent Science and Engineering, Yanshan University is a milestone event, a happy event and a lucky event in the process of international education development. He put forward three hopes for the first undergraduates of the college, hoping that the students should have "great feelings", "international standards" and "learning ability", work hard and achieve their dreams. The ceremony and convocation were broadcast live online simultaneously, and parents of freshmen and some freshmen who did not arrive at campus due to the epidemic situation watched the whole event online.
Silesian College of Intelligent Science and Engineering, Yanshan University has four undergraduate majors such as Mechanical Design & Manufacturing and Automation, Automation, Electronic Science and Technology, and Software Engineering. The college started enrollment for the first time this year and a total of 298 students were recruited. The approval of the Silesian College of Intelligent Science and Engineering, Yanshan University is a landmark achievement in the field of international exchange and cooperation, a milestone in the process of international education development, and has great significance and far-reaching influence on enhancing the international influence of YSU and the level of education opening to the outside world.
