YSU Shines on 2022 National Mathematical Contest in Modeling for College Students

Recently, all lists of 2022 "Higher Education Press Cup" National Mathematical Contest in Modeling for College Students were announced, and YSU made great achievements again, winning 2 national first prizes and 5 national second prizes, with the number and level of awards ranking among the top universities in China and ranking joint first in the Hebei province.

As the Class I competition recognized by YSU, National Mathematical Contest in Modeling for College Students is a brand competition which is widely welcomed by faculty and students. Over the years, YSU has attached great importance to the organization and preparation for the mathematical modeling contest. In order to better promote the mathematical modeling contest and select outstanding teams to participate in provincial and national competitions, YSU held the 9th YSU Mathematical Modeling Competition and the On-campus Selection Competition for National Mathematical Contest in Modeling for College Students in May this year, which was sponsored by the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education and Guidance Center and organized by School of Science. The competition was strongly supported by the Office of Academic Affairs and various schools, and participated in by a total of 1,175 students. In order to achieve excellent results in the provincial and national competitions, the team of mathematical modeling teachers of the School of Science conducted special offline and online course training and modeling guidance for the contestants during the summer vacation, and selected 85 teams to represent the university in the provincial and national competitions. In the regional competition of Hebei in September this year, YSU won 16 first prizes and 21 second prizes, and 9 teams stood out in the provincial competition, which was recommended by the Organizing Committee of Hebei to participate in the national competition. YSU teams participating in national competition performed well, with the works highly recognized by the evaluation experts, and finally won 2 first prizes and 5 second prizes, reaching a new height.

Founded in 1992, National Mathematical Contest in Modeling for College Students is a basic authoritative discipline competition with great influence in China. The competition aims to improve students' practical comprehensive ability to build mathematical models and solve practical problems, and has become the largest mathematical modeling competition in the world. In 2022, a total of 1,606 colleges and universities from China, Britain, Malaysia and other countries, with 54,257 teams (49,424 undergraduate teams and 4,833 junior college teams), and over 160,000 people, signed up for the competition. In the national competition, a total of 299 national first prizes (winning rate of 0.6%) and 1,146 second prizes (winning rate of 2.3%) were awarded for undergraduate group.
