Recently, the Confucius Institute at Botswana International University of Science and Technology, jointly sponsored by YSU and Botswana International University of Science and Technology, was officially approved. This marks the second Confucius Institute established by YSU worldwide, representing a significant milestone in the substantive cooperation between YSU and African universities. The establishment of this institute underscores YSU’scomprehensive strength in promoting international Chinese education and offering education globally. It is of tremendous importance for YSU to enhance the level of international education in the new era, integrating into the "Belt and Road Initiative" education action, and strengthening the country’s international communication capacity.
YSU and Botswana International University of Science and Technology signed an inter-university cooperation agreement in October 2021, expressing a strong desire to engage in educational cooperation. The construction of Confucius Institute is a joint project that the two universities have prioritized and agreed upon. Through the Confucius Institute, both universities aim to enhance S&T exchanges, personnel exchanges and joint training of students. After more than a year of exchanges and consultations, the two univerisites formally submitted a joint application to the Chinese International Education Foundation to establish the Confucius Institute, which has now been officially approved.
After the establishment, the Confucius Institute at Botswana International University of Science and Technology will fully integrate the unique disciplinary characteristics of the two universities. The institute will adopt the "Chinese + Vocational Skills" training model to cultivate innovative, multi-talented individulas and provide talent reserves for local and Chinese-funded enterprises in Botswana. The institute aims to strengthen educational cooperation, promote economic and cultural exchanges between China and Botswana, support vocational education and multicultural development worldwide, and contribute to building a community of shared future between China and Africa.
