The 19th National Conference on Technology of Plasticity Kicks Off at YSU

The 19th National Conference on Technology of Plasticity kicks off in Qinhuangdao from October 24 to 26. Co-hosted by the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society (CMES) and the China Academy of Machinery Beijing Research Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Technology Co., Ltd. (BRIMET), and organized by the China Society for Technology of Plasticity (CSTP) under CMES, in collaboration with YSU and other partners, the conference focuses on the theme “Innovating Manufacturing Strength through New Quality Productivity”. The event draws 820 experts and scholars from 218 universities, research institutes, and enterprises in China and abroad for discussions on the latest advances, research frontiers, industrial priorities, and future trends in plastic engineering.

The opening ceremony brings together leading figures from academia and industry, including Academician Xie Jianxin, Professor at the University of Science and Technology Beijing and Chair of CSTP, CMES; Zuo Xiaowei, Deputy Secretary-General of CMES; Hua Lin, Professor at Wuhan University of Technology and Chair of CSTP, CMES; and Li Xianjun, Party Secretary, Chairman, and General Manager of BRIMET. Representing YSU are Zhao Xianfeng, Secretary of the CPC YSU Committee; Wang Huiyuan, President and Deputy Secretary of the CPC YSU Committee; Cai Xingzhou, Deputy Secretary of the CPC YSU Committee; and Nie Shaomin, former Secretary of the CPC YSU Committee and former Chair of the Eighth Council of CSTP. The ceremony, chaired by Hua Lin, features speeches by Xie Jianxin, Zuo Xiaowei, Wang Huiyuan, and Li Xianjun.

In his remarks, Xie Jianxin emphasizes that plasticity engineering, a core technology in manufacturing, continues to evolve in line with China’s major strategic goals. He notes that the society will advance its mission of “academic leadership, industrial empowerment, and talent cultivation” by deepening research, strengthening collaboration between industry and academia, and nurturing innovative talent. These efforts, he adds, aim to drive new quality productivity and bolster the nation’s manufacturing strength.

Zuo Xiaowei underscores the pivotal role of plasticity engineering as a key branch of mechanical engineering and a major driver of high-quality development in China’s manufacturing sector. He says that continued efforts to host high-level academic conferences will further advance collaboration among industry, academia, research, and application, accelerate the commercialization of technological innovations, and foster a new generation of skilled professionals, thereby contributing to China’s transformation from a manufacturing nation to a global manufacturing powerhouse.

Highlighting YSU’s latest progress in advanced forming, high-end equipment, and new materials, Wang Huiyuan notes that the conference provides a high-level platform for academic-industry collaboration, knowledge exchange, and talent development, driving the advancement of plasticity engineering toward greater sophistication, intelligence, and sustainability. As host, YSU pledges its full support for the conference and invites participants to explore its vibrant campus and deepen partnerships for mutual growth.

Li Xianjun expresses his gratitude to colleagues across the industry for their long-standing trust and support, noting that BRIMET, as one of the conference’s co-hosts, deeply values the spirit of collaboration within the community. Looking ahead, he says BRIMET will remain committed to its mission of “driving industrial innovation and serving national strategies” while taking on greater responsibility for advancing high-quality development across the sector. With an open and pragmatic approach, the institute aims to deepen partnerships and work with peers to foster new growth drivers and strengthen the industry’s competitive edge.

The conference also features the award ceremony for the 2025 China College Students Mechanical Engineering Innovation and Creativity Competition – “Pacific Precision Forging Cup” 2nd Plasticity Engineering Practice and Innovation Finals. Jin Hong, Secretary-General of CSTP, presides over the event, while a student from YSU’s School of Mechanical Engineering, majoring in Material Forming and Control Engineering, speaks on behalf of the award winners.

Highlights from the award ceremony

The conference spotlights a series of keynote reports delivered by distinguished experts from China and abroad. Speakers include Professor Hua Lin from Wuhan University of Technology; A. Erman Tekkaya, Fellow of acatech (German National Academy of Science and Engineering) and Professor at TU Dortmund University; Chair Professor Fu Mingwang from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University; Academician Jeong Whan Yoon of the Korea Institute of Science and Technology and Professor at Deakin University and KAIST; Professor Zhang Zhimin from North University of China; Lei Bingwang, Chief Engineer and Senior Engineer at Inner Mongolia North Heavy Industries Group Co., Ltd.; Professor Peng Yan from Chongqing University of Technology; Professor Chen Jun from Shanghai Jiao Tong University; Professor Wang Liliang from Imperial College London; and Professor Huang Huagui from YSU. Their presentations showcase the latest breakthroughs and emerging trends driving innovation in the field, with Professor Yao Jing, Dean of YSU’s School of Mechanical Engineering, chairing the keynote session.

Parallel sub-sessions accompany the main conference, addressing key areas such as digital technologies and applications, plasticity theory, high-performance precision forming of complex hollow components, sheet and tube forming, bulk forming, spinning and flexible forming, material microstructure and properties, rolling processes, plastic forming equipment, and composite forming technologies. Experts and scholars exchange insights through keynote presentations, thematic discussions, and interactive forums, fostering vibrant academic dialogue and inspiring new perspectives on technological innovation.

On the sidelines of the conference, participants visit several of YSU’s key research and exhibition facilities, including the YSU Archives & History Museum, the State Key Laboratory for Metastable Materials Science and Technology, the National Engineering Research Center for Equipment and Technology of Cold Strip Rolling, and the National-Local Joint Engineering Research Center for Advanced Manufacturing, Forming Technology and Equipment.

Launched by CSTP under CMES, the National Conference on Technology of Plasticity has evolved into one of China’s foremost academic gatherings in the field. Held biennially, the event provides a premier platform for scientists, engineers, and industry professionals to share research progress, showcase innovative achievements, and explore emerging trends in plasticity engineering. Through open dialogue and collaboration, the conference continues to strengthen ties between academia, industry, and government, driving independent innovation and sustainable growth across China’s plasticity engineering sector.
