The Chinese Society for Metals (CSM) recently hosted the award ceremony for its 15th Metallurgical Youth Science and Technology Award. Following a rigorous process of evaluation, public announcement, and approval by the Society’s leadership committee, Professor Sun Jianliang from the School of Mechanical Engineering at Yanshan University (YSU) was honored with the 15th CSM Metallurgical Youth Science and Technology Award. This recognition marks another significant advancement by young researchers from our university in the field of iron and steel metallurgy. A total of 20 individuals nationwide were granted this Award, and our university is the only higher education institution in Hebei Province to receive this distinguished honor.
Award Ceremony
Professor Sun Jianliang has long been dedicated to scientific research in areas including dynamics and stability control of rolling mill systems, intelligent monitoring and control of rolling equipment and product quality, and integrated design and manufacturing of large pressure-resistant cylindrical shells. He has received 5 provincial/ministerial-level science and technology awards, presided over more than 30 national, provincial/ministerial, and industry-funded research projects, published over 100 academic papers, and been granted more than 30 Chinese invention patents. Addressing the critical demands for intelligent and green development in the steel industry, Professor Sun established a comprehensive dynamic modeling framework for strip rolling mill systems, developed technologies for stable operation and vibration control of roll stands, and created online monitoring and fault diagnosis systems for strip mill equipment and product quality, significantly enhancing the fault diagnosis capability and intelligence level of strip rolling mills. Furthermore, he broke through conventional forging methods for large cylindrical shells by pioneering a "rolling-instead-of-forging" approach, establishing foundational theories for rolling large cylindrical shells and developing a rapid heat treatment process that have enabled mass production of products with diameters ranging from 8 to 13 meters. These research achievements hold substantial significance for elevating the overall level of rolling mill equipment, process technology, and product quality control in China, ensuring robust equipment operation and intelligent manufacturing processes, and driving industrial upgrading.
