Recently, the Yanzhao Advanced Manufacturing Laboratory (hereinafter referred to as the "Laboratory"), which is being constructed under the leadership of YSU, received approval from the Provincial Department of Science and Technology for its establishment. The Laboratory is a crucial component of Hebei province's scientific and technological innovation system, representing the highest level of strategic industrial technology innovation platform that integrates comprehensive, breakthrough, and leading capabilities in the province. The approval for the Laboratory's establishment marks another significant advancement for our university in the strategic deployment of scientific and technological innovation platforms.
On April 14, the Provincial Department of Science and Technology convened a demonstration meeting at YSU to evaluate the construction plan for the Yanzhao Advanced Manufacturing Laboratory. Duan Guangren, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Professor at the Harbin Institute of Technology, was specially invited, along with others, to form the expert panel. Attendees included Liu Riping, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Zhang Yongqiang, Level-I Inspector of the Provincial Department of Science and Technology; Yan Da, Deputy Mayor of the CPC Qinhuangdao Municipal Government; President Wang Huiyuan, and Vice President Wen Guilin; as well as He Lixin, Vice President of Hebei University of Engineering, among others. On behalf of the Laboratory, Academician Liu Riping, Director of the Laboratory, expressed his gratitude to leaders at all levels and colleagues from various sectors for their attention and support towards the Laboratory's construction and development. He stated that the Laboratory will regard breaking through key technologies and empowering industrial innovation as its core mission. It aims to substantively drive the transformation and upgrading of the provincial manufacturing sector, contributing significantly to the accelerated construction of a strong manufacturing province.

The defense and evaluation session of the construction plan was presided over by Academician Duan Guangren. Yan Shuting, Dean of the Institute of Science and Technology at YSU and Deputy Director of the Office of the Preparatory Leading Group for the Yanzhao Advanced Manufacturing Laboratory, delivered a report on the Laboratory's construction plan. The attending experts provided opinions and suggestions on the Laboratory's construction and operation from various perspectives, including focusing on industrial demands, refining research directions, innovating operational mechanisms, optimizing resource allocation, promoting achievement sharing, strengthening transformation and application, and deepening collaborative cooperation. After thorough evaluation, the expert panel unanimously agreed that the Laboratory is accurately positioned with clear objectives; its research directions align well with industrial development needs, its construction philosophy and implementation pathways are scientific and feasible, and the supporting policies and guarantee measures from the provincial and municipal governments are robust. The panel thus consented to approve the construction plan.

Wang Huiyuan expressed his gratitude to the experts, leaders, and colleagues on behalf of the university. He stated that the university will fully commit to the Laboratory's construction under the overall guidance of the Provincial Department of Science and Technology. Efforts will be made to further optimize top-level design, precisely align with industrial needs, establish long-term mechanisms, deepen coordination and linkage, and take pragmatic measures to ensure the Laboratory's construction is implemented promptly and effectively.

Yan Da expressed his gratitude to the experts and leaders on behalf of CPC Qinhuangdao Municipal Committee and CPC Qinhuangdao Municipal Government. He pointed out that the Laboratory is of great significance for the high-end, intelligent, and green transformation of Qinhuangdao's manufacturing industry. CPC Qinhuangdao Municipal Government will work closely with all parties to strive to build the Laboratory into a cradle of innovation, a hub for result transformation, and a cluster of talent in advanced manufacturing. This will contribute "Qinhuangdao strength" to the construction of a strong manufacturing country and the high-quality economic and social development of the entire province.

In his concluding remarks, Zhang Yongqiang pointed out that the construction of the Laboratory is an important deployment by CPC Hebei Provincial Committee and CPC Hebei Provincial Government. It aims to focus on the layout of high-energy platforms, gather high-quality innovation resources, and promote the high-quality development of leading industries in Hebei Province. He put forward five requirements for the Laboratory's construction and development: I. Fully absorb expert opinions to comprehensively enhance the scientificity and feasibility of the construction plan. II. Anchor the mission and serve the overall development strategy to create a source of innovation for the advanced manufacturing industry. III. Focus on the main research directions, persist in long-term efforts, and strive for major landmark achievements. IV. Adhere to an application-oriented approach, strengthen the connection between industry and research, and bridge the "last mile" from scientific research to industrial application. V. Intensify efforts to gather talent, tighten the responsibility for guarantees, and consolidate the foundation for the Laboratory's high-quality operation.

Also attending the meeting were Li Yan, Level-II Researcher from the Basic Research and Platform Construction Division of the Provincial Department of Science and Technology; Liu Zhizhou, Director of the Equipment Industry Division of the Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology; heads of relevant departments from the Qinhuangdao Municipal Government, Handan Municipal Government, YSU, and Hebei University of Engineering; as well as representatives from related enterprises.
The Yanzhao Advanced Manufacturing Laboratory is under the overall leadership of the Provincial Department of Science and Technology. The main construction entity is CPC Qinhuangdao Municipal Government, with YSU as the leading construction unit, in collaboration with Hebei University of Engineering, Institute of Tsinghua University, Hebei, and other institutions. With the core mission of achieving breakthroughs in key digitalization and intelligence technologies for high-end equipment, empowering innovation through artificial intelligence, and providing strategic decision-making support, the Laboratory focuses on building a generic technology platform for artificial intelligence and an advanced manufacturing platform for multiple industrial fields. It aims to drive the digital and intelligent transformation of the province's manufacturing sector, foster high-energy advanced manufacturing industrial clusters, and contribute significantly to the development of China's advanced manufacturing industry.
