Lecturer Introduction

Ms. Yang Hong is a research librarian at the Palace Museum, and she is the disciple of Mr. Wang Zhongjie, a master of architectural color painting. She is a color painting expert on the official architecture of Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty. She is a Director of China Forbidden City Society, vice Chairman of the Garden Ancient Building branch of China Yuanmingyuan Society, Director of Color Painting Research Center and Chief Researcher of color painting of the official building.She is the author of “Research on Qianlong Garden Architectural Paintings”, completed the project of National Ministry of Culture “Research on Official Colored Paintings of the Ming Dynasty: A Case Study of Forbidden City”, and published more than 30 academic papers.

Lecture Content

The Forbidden City is the most complete wooden structure in the world. In recent years, with the popularization of cultural relic knowledge, the hit of “Forbidden City Culture” brought some related cultural products in the society. The buildings of the Forbidden City are symmetrically distributed along the central meridian, and the overall layout is magnificent. Color painting is an important part of Chinese ancient architectural art, and constitutes one of the main characteristics of Chinese ancient architecture. The existing official color paintings of the Forbidden City in the Ming and Qing dynasties, especially the paintings of Qing Dynasty of 370 years history are typical historical relics preserved in this historical stage.

Since the 18th National Congress of the CPC was held, the leadership of the Party Central Committee, with Chairman Xi Jinping as the core, has attached great importance to the inheritance and development of excellent Chinese traditional culture, and called for the Chinese excellent traditional culture to enter the campuses of universities, middle schools, and elementary schools, which is helpful Chinese excellent traditional culture integrated into the study on campus.

Ms Yang Hong is an active promoter of “Living Cultural Relics”. While doing the protection and restoration of the daily cultural relics, she is dedicated to the promotion and construction of the Palace’s ancient buildings color painting knowledge. Researcher Yang will acquaint students with the design and color of the Forbidden City in the Ming and Qing dynasties.
