Venue:A101, Electric Engineering Building

Brief introduction of the reporter:

Dr Jiangfeng Zhang, Senior Lecturer,Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, University of Strathclyde,UK

Jiangfeng Zhang received his B.Sc. andPh.D. degrees in Computing mathematics and applied software from Xi’an JiaotongUniversity, Xi’an, China, in July 1995 and December 1999, respectively. FromFebruary 2000 to August 2002 he was a lecturer at the Shanghai JiaotongUniversity, China. Then he was a postdoctoral researcher in the ChineseUniversity of Hong Kong, Ecole Centrale de Nantes (France), NanyangTechnological University (Singapore), University of Liverpool (UK), andUniversity of Pretoria (RSA). He was a senior lecturer and then an associateprofessor at the University of Pretoria during 2008-2013. He is currently aSenior Lecturer with the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, Universityof Strathclyde, U.K. His research covers the modeling and control of energysystems, with a focus on energy efficiency and demand-side management. He is aChartered Engineer and also a member of the IFAC Technical Committee 6.3 onPower and Energy Systems.

Abstract of the report:

This report will first give a quickreview on Demand Side Management (DSM), and then introduce the general optimizationand control modelling techniques for DSM. Case studies on water pumping systemcontrol, conveyor belt load shifting, HVAC, PV system maintenance, etc., willbe recalled to introduce the application of these modelling techniques.
