About the lecturer: Yu Hou, Associate Professor and Master Supervisor at School of Foreign Studies, YSU, received his Ph.D. in translation studies at Macquarie University, Australia. Hou is mainly engaged in the corpus-based study on translations ofDream of the Red Chamberand novels by Mo Yan (Chinese Nobel Literature Prize winner), the study on Goldblatt’s translator style, and the study on “Going-out” strategy to promote Chinese translation studies abroad. Hou has hosted 3 programs supported by Humanities & Social Sciences Department, Ministry of Education of China, and Hebei Social Sciences Foundation; YSU 1stIndependent Project for Young Teachers Class A; and 2nd“New Talents” Project. Besides, he has participated in two programs on translation studies ofDream of the Red Chambersupported by National Social Sciences Foundation and published an English monograph on translation studies ofDream of the Red Chamberinternationally. Meanwhile, he has published 2 SSCI papers in international journals, and about 20 papers in domestic core journals in the field of translation, foreign languages and literature, including:Chinese Translations Journal, Foreign Languages and Their Teaching, Journal of PLA University of Foreign Languages, A Dream of Red Mansions,andJournal of Xi'an Foreign Languages University.He won the first prize of 8thQinhuangdao Social Science Achievement Award.
About the lecture: Hou will introduce the research progress on his monograph -A Study on Translators’ Explicitation Style of Dream of the Red Chamber and its Inspiration on “Going-out” Strategy to Promote Chinese Literature Abroad.First of all, he will point out theoretical and practical value of the study, corpus-based studies on explicitation translation of modern and contemporary Chinese literature at home and abroad, and present situation and trend of the study on explicitation translation ofDream of the Red Chamber. Secondly, He will focus on 3 aspects of the study: the study on explicitation style ofDream of the Red Chamberbased on original text, the study on explicitation style ofDream of the Red Chamberbased on target text, and the study on translators’ explicitation style ofDream of the Red Chamber. Then, he will introduce research ideas and methods. Finally, research progress will be presented.
