About the Lecturer:Desheng Jiang, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and famous expert of optical fiber sensing technology, is now Chair Professor of Wuhan University of Technology, PhD supervisor, and State Council Allowance Expert. Professor Jiang commits to research and industrialization of optical fiber sensing technology for a long time and has won four national science and technology progress award, the State Technical Invention Award, more than 10 provincial and ministerial-level awards in the past decade. He developed a 3-people group to the largest state-level industrial test base for optical fiber sensing technology and national high-tech industrialization demonstration project of optical fiber sensors integrating talent training, R&D and manufacture, formed the full set of technologies and equipment with China’s independent intellectual property rights applied to large-scale engineering from the production of materials, devices, and sensing systems. He applied for 16 invention patents, and obtained 5 authorizations, one of which was honored with the Chinese Excellent Patent Award, which made outstanding contribution for China’s development of optical fiber sensing technology. He is now a member of the Chinese Materials Research Society, the Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers and the Optical Society of America. He has presided over 20 national and provincial science and technology projects. In 2007 and following 5 years, he won 1 Second Prize and 1 Third Prize of State Science & Technology Progress, and 6 provincial and ministerial awards. Jiang has published 1monograph and more than 70 theses, and he owns over 10 patents. He has trained 12doctors and 68 masters.
About the Lecture:Ultra-weak grating is a novel optical passive device. It is a kind of spatial periodical refractive index distribution based on the photosensitive properties of optical fiber materials on the fiber core, and its function is to change or control the propagation behavior of light in the region. The appearance of the ultra-weak grating makes many complex optical fiber communication networks and sensor networks possible, greatly widening the application of optical fiber technology, and producing many important applications. Based on the theory of electromagnetic field, this report focuses on the fabrication technology, sensing mechanism, and the construction of sensor network, and introduces the application of weak grating in health monitoring of various environments.
