Topic:Analysis on Styles and Genres in Instrumental Performance

About the Lecturer:Doctor Yan Zou is now a professor and Master Supervisor at the Musicology Department of Shanghai Conservatory of Music. Taught by Prof. Yiping Qian, Zou obtained his Master Degree in 2003 and Doctor Degree in 2006 at Shanghai Conservatory of Music. From 2013 to 2014, he conducted one-year academic research at the University of Cambridge as a senior visiting scholar. Now, Prof. Zou’s main research areas contain Musical Analysis, Musical Performance Art Theory and Music Criticism. He has published three monographs: An Introduction to Classical Monographs of Chinese Musicology---Musical Analysis (coauthor with Prof. Yiping Qian in 2011), Study on the Formation Classical Sonata Form (2012), and Palindrome Structure in Alban Berg’s Music Works (2012). Zou has also published over 100 articles in periodicals including Music Art, Journal of the Central Conservatory of Music, People’s Music, Musicology in China, Chinese Music, Huang Zhong (Journal of Wuhan Conservatory of Music), Journal of Xinghai Conservatory of Music, Journal of Tianjin Conservatory of Music and Wen Wei Po. Prof. Zou has translated a number of works such as the Playing Annotation and Master Copy Annotation of Chopin Works compiled by Jan Ekier, and The Art of Practicing by Madeleine Brussel. He once attended and delivered speeches in international academic conferences in America, England, Hong Kong and Taiwan. And he did keynote speeches at King’s College, University of Cambridge and UCLA.
