Topic:Terahertz Science and Technology
Time:14:30, May 17th(Thursday), 2018
Venue:Room 108, Teaching Building No. 2, the West Campus
Lecturer:Hu Weidong
About the Lecturer:Hu Weidong, male, born in 1975, was admitted to the Department of Electronic Engineering of Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) in 1993. After graduating in 2004, he taught at BIT. In 2010, he was a visiting scholar at the National Millimeter Wave Key Laboratory of the City University of Hong Kong. Hu is currently the doctoral supervisor at Beijing Key Laboratory of Millimeter wave and Terahertz Technique of Beijing Institute of Technology, the specially-appointed professor of the MoE Terahertz Key Laboratory of the Capital Normal University, and the Director of the Sino-European Laboratory in Advanced Electromagnetic Technology (Italian Pisa University and Delft University of Technology, Netherlands). His main research area includes millimeter waves/ terahertz space detection and remote sensing technology.
About the Lecture:Terahertz science and technology is a very promising research field. Based on the characteristics of the terahertz wave and the development level of existing electronic devices, it can be applied to astronomy observation, atmospheric remote sensing, stealth measurement, security imaging, non-destructive testing, medical detection, and the related fields of terahertz wave and multi-layer composite media.
On December 11, 2016, China successfully launched the world’s first stationary orbit meteorological satellite “FY-4” and acquired a large amount of data. In 2016, Beijing Institute of Technology developed the principled sample machine of the first terahertz weather radar in China and carried outfield tests to obtain valuable test data. So far, China has a number of terahertz technologies with independent intellectual property rights that break the monopoly of the United States and the European Space Agency. However, there are still many research topics that are worthy of in-depth study for application. Artificial intelligence and ultimate intelligence will play an important role.
All teachers and students are welcome!
