Lecture:The Physical Basis of the Three Industrial Revolutions
Speaker: Dr. Cao Zexian
Venue:Room 108, Teaching Building No.1, West Campus
Date: Wednesday, September 26, 2018
Time: 18:00
Lecture Content:
Human society has experienced three industrial revolutions: the first industrial revolution characterized by the use of heat engines, the second industrial revolution by power use, and the third industrial revolution by semiconductor use. The foundations of these three industrial revolutions are thermodynamics, electro-magnetics (Maxwell’s theory) and quantum mechanics. Only from the perspective of physics can we grasp the whole picture of these industrial revolutions. This report begins with the basic principles of thermodynamics, electromagnetism and quantum mechanics, and argues the origin and development of the human industrial revolution. It tries to show a principle, a set of equations, a new world of industrial revolution development, and states that science is the source of human strength.
