Speaker Introduction

Duan Zhengren is an Associate Professor at Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience, National Central University, Taiwan as well as a Project Scientist of Institute of Neurocomputing, University of California, San Diego (UCSD). His expertise includes neuroimaging (including fMRI and EEG), biomedical engineering (such as medical instruments, usability studies, clinical trials, etc.), and their synergy in the clinic. Research interests include further development of fMRI data analysis methods, BCI design and cognitive rehabilitation for stroke patients and children with cerebral palsy, and clinical application of neuroimaging.

Lecture Content

This report put together a BCI-controlled stroke rehabilitation device and conducted a pre-clinical trial to test the effectiveness of the BCI rehabilitation using functional neuroimaging technology. This report will introduce the advances: further development of functional MRI data analysis methods, BCI-based stroke and cognitive rehabilitation for stroke patient and children with cerebral palsy, and the clinical applications of neuroimaging, such as the on-line detection of freezing of gait onset of the Parkinson’s disease patient using EEG, the cause of impulse control disorders in long-term Parkinson’s disease patients using functional MRI, and seizure network estimation using simultaneous EEG-fMRI technology.

This report is suitable for teachers and students in computer, electronics, control, biomedical engineering and other majors interested in computing neuroscience and information processing.

All are welcome.
