Mental Health Education Expert Zhou Lianhong Invited to Give a Lecture at YSU

[News from the News Center] At 2:30 p.m. on May 24th, Ms. Zhou Lianhong, an expert in mental health education and the counselor of the psychology center of Tsinghua University, was invited to give a special lecture on youth health education entitled “How to care for yourself in love” in the Student Activity Center, the East Campus. A total of over 1300 people including leaders in charge of student affairs, all counselors and student representatives listened to the lecture. The lecture was hosted by Zhao Yanqing, the Director of the Mental Health Education Service Center under the Student Affairs Office.

In the lecture, Zhou Lianhong led the teachers and students to perform imagination relaxation training and illustrated physical and mental relaxation skills, which created a warm, harmonious atmosphere for the lecture. Afterwards, Zhou Lianhong detailed the psychological needs and various types of them in an intimate relationship from college students’ amativeness and friendship. She also explained the types and manifestations of different sexual orientations and common psychological puzzles about sex of college students in depth from the perspective of youth sexual psychology. Zhou also told the students how to rationally view sexual behavior in love and shared the importance and effective methods of self-protection. Particularly, she elaborated on AIDS, which involves the pathological mechanism, transmission methods, misunderstandings and scientific detection of AIDS, based on which she was trying to raise students’ awareness and capabilities of self-protection. In the interactive session, Zhou answered the questions from the students patiently and meticulously.

Zhou Lianhong gave YSU teachers and students a very impressive lecture. Her reasoning, expounded in the lecture with enormous evidence, vivid pictures, substantial data and convincing cases, is nevertheless persuasive. The lecture is helpful in encouraging students to build a positive lifestyle and instill in students a healthy concept of marriage as well as a true pursuit of college life. Her lecture demonstrated her solid theoretical knowledge, unique lecturing style and effective communication skill, which won students and teachers’ recognition.

Since 2016, the Student Affairs Office has continuously put more efforts in life and health education. Experts inside and outside YSU are invited to give lectures on life, health and AIDS prevention so as to reach out to all student groups. Courses on mental health education are taught to all undergraduates and postgraduates each semester in the form of small classes. Taking the opportunities of important events such as the World AIDS Day, a series of publicity and education activities have been conducted simultaneously online and offline. Through WeChat messages, lectures, and theme class discussion, students are successfully aware of the importance of self-protection, which contributed to students’ well-beings and comprehensive development.

Zhou Lianhong graduated from Peking Union Medical College and is currently a researcher at the Center for Disease Prevention and Control in Chaoyang District, Beijing, a counselor at the psychology center of Tsinghua University, an expert of Beijing psychological lecture group. Zhou has been engaged in psychological work for nearly 20 years and processes extensive clinical experience.
