The 23rd “Tide Cup” Debate held at YSU

[News from the News Center] At 19:00 on December 1, the 23rd“Tide Cup” Debate Final -- Yanshan University and the Beijing Foreign Studies University Friendship Competition held in Room 109, the Student Activity Center, East Campus. After fierce competition, the School of Vehicle and Energy won the debate and the School of Economics and Management won the second place.

A video presents us the whole process of this debate which involves 14 teams and lasts more than two months. The championship was produced by several debates on many levels. Centered the topic “The distance between people in the WeChat era”, the For and Against teams from the School of Vehicle and Energy and the School of Economics and Management respectively had a heated debate. The two sides’ excellent performance wins rounds of applauses.

The audience

After the finals, the Beijing Foreign Studies University Debate Team and YSU debate team had a friendly debate on the topic “Whether Information fragmentation improves people’s cognition”. The two sides’ debate both are supported by vivid and concrete examples and powerful data. After the debate, Li Jie from the School of Marxism Studies gave a review, hoping that the debate would further enhance students’ logical thinking ability as well as the friendship with other universities.

As a traditional academic activity of our university, the “Tide Cup” debate has gone through 23 years, and has trained some high-quality debate talents. It is reported that this “Tide Cup” debate lasted nearly 50 days and 14 teams participated in the competition, after 18 group matches, 4 quarterfinals, 2 semi-finals, which enrich the campus culture and demonstrate students’ talents.
