[News from the News Center] On the afternoon of Dec. 20, thefoundation ceremonyof ChineseassociationofConfucius Institute at the University of Toledo(UT), USAwas held at the first reception room, Century Building. Zhang Fucheng, YSU vice president, attended the ceremony as well as leaders from other institutions including Qinhuangdao Education Bureau,Hebei Normal University for Nationalities,NewCenturyHighSchool of Qinhuangdao, and Haibeiluprimary schoolin Beidaihe District.The ceremony was presided over by Teng Guosheng, Director of YSUInternational Cooperation Division.
On behalf ofYSU, Zhang Fucheng warmly congratulated the establishment of the ChineseassociationofUTConfucius Institute. He briefly reviewed the history ofYSUandthe progress ofConfucius Institute betweenYSU and UT, as well as the achievements and problems encountered. He said that it is our responsibilitytorun the Confucius Institute overseas, which is also the requirement by the Partyandthe Government.As theConfucius Instituteexpands itsservice function, it is increasingly necessary to bring together the resources and strengths of all sectors of society, especially the local education departments and schoolsatall levels, to participate in planning and construction, to jointly cope with difficulties and challenges, and tobuildConfuciusInstitute intoa comprehensive platform integrating language teaching, cultural exchange, academic research and social services.Adheringto the concept and attitude of openness, co-construction and sharing, YSUsincerely welcomes Qinhuangdao Education Bureau,Hebei Normal University for Nationalities,NewCenturyHighSchool of Qinhuangdao, and Haibeiluprimary schoolin Beidaihe Districtto join the association. At the ceremony, theconstitution of the ChineseassociationofUTConfucius Institute was passed. Zhang Fucheng signed an agreement with the member units,marking theformalestablishment of the Chineseassociation. According to theconstitution and the needs of the work, the memberunitsalso recommended relevant personnel to form an association liaison office, and Zhang Wenli, deputy director of the International CooperationDivision, served as the director of the liaison office.
ChineseassociationofUTConfucius Instituteis established in accordance with therequirementsof the Hebei Provincial Department of Education and therealityof theYSUoverseas Confucius Institutesandthe classroom construction. It aimsto bring into play the advantages ofYSUand the member units, integrate the Chinese excellent culture and resources for teaching Chinese as a foreign language,enhancethe strength ofYSUoverseas Confucius Institute (classroom), and ensure the healthy and stable development of the Confucius Institute (classroom).
