YSU Confucius Institute holds culture activities during the Chinese New Year

[News from the News Center] On Feb. 6, the second day of the Chinese New Year, YSU Confucius Institute at the University of Toledo, USA, held cultural activities related to Chinese New Year for American citizens and local Chinese.

Spring Festival Carnival was held on the main campus of the University of Toledo with 16 characteristic theme exhibitions, lastingfor more than three hours. Faculty and students from the University and local high school students and citizens over 300 participated in the activity. The exhibition ranges from traditional Chinese arts: Chinese Calligraphy, operatic face painting, paper-cut, and Chinese knot, to game with Chinese characteristics: rope skipping, shuttlecock kicking, throwing sandbags, and Kong Ming Lock. Participants experienced colorful Chinese culture, tasted the traditional Chinese cuisine, and got New Year gifts. The activity gained popularity at the city of Toledo. Four American media: abc13, NBC24, UTnews and UT: 10 interviewed Chinese and foreign affairs directors of the Confucius Institute.abc13 and NBC24 broadcast on that day.

Citizens experience Chinese Calligraphy.

In addition, the Confucius Institute and Chinese Association jointly held Spring Festival Gala, which attracted more than 500 Chinese and American citizens. Besides, the Confucius Institute set up a table at the entrance for Chinese calligraphy and paper folding exhibition and experience. After Wushu performance, New Year songs by bands and square dancing, the gala ended in the chorus “Me and My Motherland” by local Chinese. Mr. WadeKapszukiewicz, mayor of Toledo, spoke at the party and wished all Chinese a happy year of the pig, which was reported by local news station WTOL11.

The Confucius Institute at the University of Toledo will also hold the Spring Festival cultural activities at the teaching sites of Jackson Community College, North Central State College, and McTigue (a local public primary school).
