Subsequently, YSU delegation held a work meeting with Professor Peter C. Nelson, Dean of the School of Engineering. Professor Peter welcomed YSU delegation and gave a detailed introduction to the University of Illinois at Chicago. Professor Peter thanked YSU for its strong support for the cooperation projects between the two universities. He fully affirmed the excellent performance of the students who are studying at UIC. He hoped to further develop more feasible communication and cooperation projects based on the existing cooperation projects. Liu Hongmin said that YSU is planning and formulating a new engineering construction strategy, and hoping to strengthenthecooperation with UIC in the areas such as big data, artificial intelligence, and traditional engineering disciplines such as mechanical engineering, materials science, control systems, and chemistry. The cooperation could be realized by some forms such as “2+2” experimental class, the master-doctoral joint program, and joint professor- workshops. On behalf of YSU, Liu Hongmin invited Professor Peter to visit our university to discuss the cooperation plan. Professor Peter accepted the invitation with pleasure.
The delegation visited five students study at UIC.
During the visit, the delegation visited five YSU exchanging students at UIC and had a cordial discussion with them. The students reported on their life of learning and living abroad. They said thatthe experience ofstudying abroadhas improvedtheirabilities of livingon their won, broadenedtheiracademichorizons, developedtheir problem solvingability, and more importantly, they have learned how to plan their future career. The University of Illinois at Chicago, founded in 1982, is one of the world's most influential public universities - an important member of the University of Illinois, the largest public research university (I category) in the Chicago area. UIC is# 198 in US News for global university rankings and 65 in engineering universities in the United States. In 2016, YSU signed a “3+1+1” project cooperation agreement with UIC. The project covers bioengineering, chemical engineering, civil engineering, electrical and computer engineering, industrial engineering, materials engineering, mechanical engineering and other disciplines. “3” refers to the program in which students completed the first three years of undergraduate study at YSU. “1+1” refers to the joint program in which students complete two years study (senior year + postgraduate) at UIC. The students who meet the requirements can receive the Bachelor’s degree in engineering from YSU and the Mster’s degree in engineering from UIC.
