Scholars around the world attend the conference of the technology and science of metastable materials held at YSU

16 Oct , 2019

[News from the News Center] On October 14, the 4th International Conference on Metastable Material Preparation Technology and Science, hosted by YSU’sState Key Laboratory of Meta-stable Materials Science and Technology, was held in the No.4 teaching building, East Campus. More than 200 experts and scholars in the field of metastable materials from seven countries including China, the United States, Germany, and Japan have conducted research on three related fields: high-voltage materials, energy materials, amorphous and high-entropy alloys.

Zhao Xianfeng speaks at the opening ceremony.

Zhao Xianfeng, YSU Party Secretary, attended the opening ceremony of the seminar. In his speech, he briefly introduced YSU’s basic situation, characteristics and research trends and achievement of YSU’sState Key Laboratory of Meta-stable Materials Science and Technology. He said that the seminar is a key activity in the series of activities of YSU’s 100thanniversary since the establishment, and 60thanniversary of independent running of university.

Reports from experts and scholars in the field of meta-stable materials from China, the United States, Germany,

and Japan

In the report “Advanced High-Temperature Energy Conversion and Storage Nanocomposite Ceramics”, Ralf Riedel, a professor at the Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany, introduced the synthesis process, physics and thermomechanics of high-temperature nanocomposite ceramic materials. He pointed out the potential application of this type of ceramic in the new anode materials of lithium ion batteries. Li Wei, a researcher at the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Huang Jianyu, a professor atYSU, and Philippe Moreau, a professor at Nantes University in France, also gave keynote reports on energy materials.

Wang Yanbin, a professor at the University of Chicago in the United States, focused on the study of metastable materials under pressure and stress: the use of large-volume high-voltage equipment under advanced photon sources. Taking the copper ruthenium system as an example, it is pointed out that pressure is the regulation of synthetic metastable intermetallic compounds. An effective means to clarify the unique role of high pressure and stress coordination in the hexagonal transition metal zirconium and olivine metastable minerals. Professor Ma Yuming from Jilin University and Nie Anmin from Yanshan University also shared the latest research results in the field of high pressure materials.

In addition, Frédéric Affouard, a professor at the University of Lille, France, Hidehiro Yasuda, a professor at Osaka University in Japan, Ranko Richert, a professor at Arizona State University, and the University of Silesia, Poland. Professor Marian Paluch and YSU professor Zhang Xinyu shared relevant research results in the field of amorphous and high entropy alloys.

In recent years, YSU’sState Key Laboratory of Meta-stable Materials Science and Technologyhas formed the theoretical design and performance prediction of metastable materials, metastable structural materials, metastable, and the basic scientific issues in the preparation, performance and service of metastable materials. Five mature research trends of functional materials, special preparation technology of metastable materials and supernormal service characteristics of materials have become important base for organizing high-level basic research and applied basic research, gathering and educating outstanding scientific and technological talents, and carrying out high-level academic exchanges as well as providing the original knowledge and technology output for China's materials industry.
