Overview
YSU School of Arts and Design (SAD) was first established as the Industrial Modeling major of the School of Heavy Machinery of Harbin Institute of Technology. In 1988, began functioning as a pilot project, enrolling its first undergraduate students in 1993. As the school grew, an Art Department was added in 2001, which in 2004 became the School of Art. In 2008, this school was renamed the School of Arts and Design. With 30 years of consistent effort, the SAD has developed into a school that has both sound academic disciplines and a unique educational philosophy. The SAD has been authorized to grant Master’sdegrees in two first-level disciplines including Design Science, and Music and Dance, a professional Master’sdegree in Art, andEngineering degree in Industrial Design. The SAD now has six bachelor’s programs: Industrial Design (in the Science and Engineering category), Product Design (in the Art category), Environmental Design, Visual Communication Design, Music Performance, and Dance Performance, among which Industrial Design is a key specialty of Hebei Province. The SAD now has about 1700 students (undergraduates andpostgraduates).
The SAD comprises an Industrial Design Department, an Environmental Design Department, a Department of Visual Communication Design, a Public Art Department, a Sculpture Department, a Music Department, a Teaching and Research Office, and a Comprehensive Experimental Center.
