Discipline Development and Research Achievements
MSE has PhD Programs and Post-doctoral Program of Material Science and Engineering. There are six PhD Programs in Materials Science, Material Physics and Chemistry, Material Processing Engineering, Meta-stable Material Preparation Technology, Large Casting and Forging Material and Manufacturing Technology, and Polymer Materials. Among them, Materials Science is a national key discipline, Material Physics and Chemistry is a provincial key discipline, and Metal Material Engineering is the characteristic specialty of universities. Materials Science ranks international top 1% of ESI. In the fourth national discipline assessment exercise, MSE’s Material Science and Engineering discipline was awarded B+, top 20% in China.
MSE has a State Key Laboratory of Meta-stable Materials Science and Technology and a Provincial Key Laboratory of Metal Technology, Performance Optimization and Control, National Comprehensive Teaching Demonstrative Center of Material Science, the Hebei Province Meta-stable Materials Science Collaborative Innovation Center, Hebei Province Application-orientated Education Center, and the Undergraduate Educational Innovation Center of Metallurgical Engineering Materials. MES specialties of Metal Materials Engineering and Inorganic Non-metal Materials Engineering were selected into the first batch of national first-class undergraduate specialties construction program.
MSE has undertaken eight national key research projects, and 370 research projects ranging from National Natural Science Foundation Projects to Ministerial and Provincial projects with research fund of 198 million RMB, and produced 270 authorized patents. MSE was granted two second prizes of National Technology Invention, one Tan Kah Kee Science Awards, two Hebei Province Outstanding Contribution Awards among other ten ministerial and provincial awards. MSE has published 1200 academic papers, among which 1100 were SCI-indexed papers. MSE has two research achievements selected into the “Top 10 Advances in Chinese Science” and “Top 10 Advances in Science and Technology of Chinese Universities” programs.
