Overview

The YSU School of Science (SS) developed out of the School of Heavy Machinery of Harbin Institute of Technology in 1958. In 2000, the school acquired its current name. The SS offers first-level discipline PhD programs, post-doctoral programs in Physics, and the provincial key discipline of Condensed Matter Physics. The school also provides first-level discipline master’s degree programs for Physics, Mathematics, and Statistics, as well as a professional master’s degree program in Applied Statistics. The SS has established a number of research institutes, such as the Hebei Physics Experimental Teaching Demonstrative Center, the Hebei Key Laboratory of Microstructure Materials Physics, and the Hebei Science Popularization Demonstrative Base. The school comprises six departments, including the Department of Applied Physics, the Department of Physics, the Department of Information and Computational Science, the Department of Statistics, the Department of Public Physics, and the Department of Public Mathematics.

The SS aims to offer quality educational programs in basic subjects and high-end research programs, both of which it has made great progress. The teaching staff, led by Model Teachers at provincial-level, are committed to teaching research and textbook construction, and have won, as a consequence of their teaching and research activities, a number of provincial and ministerial-level teaching achievements and awards.

The SS is focused on the foundation subjects and attaches great importance to the interdisciplinary subjects, including information, electronics, materials, statistical technology, and management. Based on its existing excellent educational resources, the school strives to reach the domestic advanced level in many subjects. Through implementing the “Teacher Education Revitalization Plan (2018-2022)”, the school has focused on developing some key young teachers and researchers.
