[News from the News Center] On the morning, May 23, YSU the first Outstanding Young Scholars Forum was held at Room 108, No. 4 Building, East Campus, which attracted about 100 PhDs and Post-Docs. Liu Wenping, member of the Standing Committee of CPC Qinhuangdao Municipal Committee, director of Organization Department of CPC Qinhuangdao Municipal Committee and director of United Front Work Department of CPC Qinhuangdao Municipal Committee, Zhao Xiaofeng, YSU Party Secretary, Xie Yan’an, member of the Standing Committee of YSU Committeeof CPC, Wang Baocheng, YSU Vice President and member of the Standing Committee of YSU Committeeof CPC as well as the leaders from each school attended the opening ceremony, which was presided over by Wang Baocheng.

At the opening ceremony, Zhao Xianfeng gave a speech on behalf of the university and expressed his welcome and gratitude to the leaders, experts and overseas young scholars. Zhao Xianfeng introduced YSU’s development and characteristics of YSU in four parts. First, the engineering education has achieved international equivalence and entered the world top class. Second, the ability of technological innovation services has achieved the national level. Third, YSU top talents account for half of those in Hebei Province. Fourth, the comprehensive strength was in the middle of China’s top 100 universities. Zhao stressed that YSU is more eager for talent than ever and that YSU will continue to implement the strategy of making YSU a key university with talents, insist on attracting talents with great business, environment and treatment, strive to create an atmosphere where they may feel respected and cared, and provide a platform for the growth and development for all kinds of talents. He sincerely hoped that more young scholars will choose, embrace and settle down in YSU and begin a new chapter in their career.

On behalf of Qinhuangdao Municipal Committee and the Qinhuangdao Municipal People’s Government, Liu Wenping expressed warm welcome to all the young talents who came from afar. Liu Wenping pointed out that YSU enjoys great influence and popularity at home and abroad, representing the highest level of higher education in Hebei Province and the education and scientific research in Qinhuangdao. Qinhuangdao Municipal Committee and the Qinhuangdao Municipal People’s Government has been always attaching great importance to the cooperation with YSU and would support the YSU’s “Double-Class” construction by put it into the government work report, and focus on integrating resources to provide all-around services for YSU’s development. Besides, she noted that YSU has been always serving the society and strongly contributing a lot to the development and construction of Qinhuangdao and that the university and the local government has jointly explored a mutually beneficial and win-win model. Liu emphasized that the “Outstanding Young Scholars Forum” held by Yanshan University will help promote and introduce more high-level talents to Qinhuangdao and she hoped that with the joint efforts of YSU, guests and Qinhuangdao City, this forum would definitely push forward the coordinated and rapid development of the university and the city.

After the opening ceremony, Wang Baocheng gave a detailed introduction to the YSU’s general situation, talent training measures and achievements, and development planning. Gao Faming, Changjiang Scholar Distinguished Professor, made a keynote report on the “Fuel Cell and Super capacitor Electrode Materials”, reviewed the domestic and international research related to preparation of electrode materials with ultra-high volume ratio, the relationship between specific capacitance and pore size, and the preparation of carbon-based electrode materials at low cost and high efficiency, and introduced the latest research in related fields.

After the main forum, young scholars from the conference visited the Metastable Materials Science and Technology State Key Laboratory, the National Engineering Research Center for Equipment and Technology of Cold Strip Rolling. Later, 13 schools held sub-forums where the young scholars shared their academic background, scientific research experience and their latest research achievements and discussed and exchanged with the leaders of each school on cooperation.
