In December 2020, the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council and the Ministry of Education introduced the "cross disciplinary" category, marking the 14th discipline category in China. The promotion of interdisciplinary integration  is a vital component of the country’s three-pronged strategy (education, technology, and talent) and is crucial for advancing the coordinated development of science, technology, and talent. Yanshan University (YSU) has embraced this initiative by incorporating the cultivation of cross-disciplinary thinking into all levels of higher education, as it seeks to establish itself as a double first-class university. In the future, the University will aim at major national strategies and cutting-edge development directions of different disciplines, intensifying interdisciplinary and professional construction, establishing "cross disciplinary" discipline group sequences, promoting cross-platform and team building, and fostering a diverse array of high-level international talents with global vision and strategic thinking for the betterment of the country.
