[News from the News Center] On Apr. 19-21, 2019 Annual Meeting of CDIO Engineering Education Alliance Annual Meeting and Emerging Engineering Education (3E) Research and Practice Project Exchange Meeting for Local Universities was held at YSU. The meeting was supervised by Department of Higher Education, MOE, and organized by CDIO Engineering Education Alliance (the Alliance), University-Industry Outstanding Engineering Education Alliance for Local Universities Nationwide, and 3E research and practice expert group, and hosted by YSU, Shantou University, and Shanghai University of Engineering Science. Leaders from MOE and Hebei Education Department attended the meeting, as well as more than 600 representatives from over 200 universities and colleges nationwide and over 10 industry-university integrated enterprises.

At the work meeting of the Alliance on Apr. 19, which was presided over by YSU Vice President Zhao Yongsheng, the representatives of YSU and Shantou University introduced the work of meeting preparation, the work report in 2018, and the programming plan for 2019 on behalf of the Alliance. Representatives conducted discussion and exchange ideas on 3E issues.

On April 20, the meeting officially opened. The opening ceremony was presided over by Zhao Yongsheng. Zhao Xianfeng, YSU Party Secretary, gave a welcome speech. He introduced the general situation of the university and the achievements of the CDIO education reform and OBE education mode for many years. Zhao hoped that YSU, by holding this meeting, would promote the continuous reform of its engineering education and make more contributions to the reform and development of national higher engineering education. Gao Ming, vice director of Higher Education Division, Hebei Education Department, expressed gratitude to the organizers for providing such an opportunity of communication between universities in Hebei Province and across the country. He said that Hebei Province would further accelerate the pace of deepening the reform of engineering education, and train more high-quality engineering talents for China’s industrial transformation and development and the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei integrated manufacturing industry.
The meeting centered on the theme “Higher Engineering Education Innovation and Practice in First-class Undergraduate Education”, and it was divided into three sessions: keynote report, exchange and communication, report and exchange on progress of 3E projects. In the first sector, Prof. Li Peigen, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, GuPeihua, Director of the 3E Center of Tianjin University and Academician of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, Shi Jingwei, Director of the Global Research Center for the Assessment of College and Student Development, Tsinghua University, Zhao Yongsheng, YSU Vice President, CaiYinghui Shantou University, Director of the Academic Affairs Office, Shantou University, and Zhang Wei, Associate Director of the Institute of China’s Science Technology and Education Policy, Zhejiang University, gave their keynote reports respectively. In the second sector, 17 guests from universities and enterprises reported and exchanged their thoughts on “innovation of talent training mode” and “classroom revolution and innovation”. In the third sector, representatives of 155 3E research and practice projects of local universities and colleges reported their progress to the expert group, and10 excellent projects gave their reports at the meeting.

This meeting brought together many well-known experts in engineering education nationwide as well as representatives from national engineering universities and colleges and from industry-university integrated enterprises. It is a grand meeting for China’s higher engineering education under the background of first-class undergraduate construction, and for sharing experience and results of high-level engineering education. This meeting will further accelerate the pace of deepening the reform of China’s engineering education and play a positive role in promoting the development of China’s higher engineering education.
