Prof. Zhang Fucheng receives the 13thGuanghua Engineering Science and Technology Prize

Prof. Zhang Fucheng has been working in the field of physical metallurgy of iron and steel many years, and has made important achievements in composition design of the austenitic steel and bainitic steel, and in thermal process optimization and structure property regulation, as well as in the manufacturing technology of the railway frog, bearing, wear-resistant steel, and other key components and parts. The research achievements have been applied to the speed-elevated railway, high-speed railway, heavy haul railway, high-power wind power equipment manufacturing, large rolling mill equipment manufacturing, large port transportation and other fields. Prof. Zhang, as the first co-author, has received 1 Second Prize of National Award for Technological Invention, 1 Second Prize of National Award for Technological Progress, 1 Hebei Province Science and Technology Outstanding Contribution Award, and other 4 awards at provincial and ministerial-level. Besides, he has published 350 papers, 3 books, and 61 authorized patents for invention at home and abroad. This Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Prize is not only an acknowledgement of Prof. Zhang's academic contributions in physical metallurgy of iron and steel in China, but also a great inspiration for his future research.

The Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Prize was established in 1996 by the first CAE president Zhu Guangya, who was also the vice chairman of the 9th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and three Taiwanese industrialists, namely Samuel Yin, Du Junyuan, and Chen Youhao. Approved by National Office for Science and Technology Awards and managed by Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Foundation, it is given every two years to recognize outstanding Chinese scientists who have made significant contributions to the fields of engineering technology and engineering management. The prize is the greatest honor in the field of engineering in China.

Up to November, 2020, a total of 303 scientists in different engineering disciplines have been selected to receive the awards at the past 13 sessions of the award presentation ceremonies.
