YSU Student Wang Shaowei Serves as Torchbearer of Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics

The torch relay for the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Zhangjiakou began on the afternoon of February 3. Wang Shaowei, a student of Yanshan University, served as the 175th torchbearer of the Zhangjiakou competition area and attended the torch relay at Fulong Ski Resort in Chongli District.

Wang Shaowei is a Class 2023 postgraduate of the Law Department of the YSU School of Humanities and Law. He is also a student deputy secretary of the Communist Youth League Committee of YSU. Wang Shaowei has won more than 20 honors and awards at all levels, such as Excellent member of the Chinese Communist Youth League, Merit Student of Hebei Province and Outstanding Graduate of Hebei Province. Wang Shaowei is one of the three college torchbearers selected and recommended by the Hebei Provincial Committee of the Chinese Communist Youth League. As a representative of excellent members of the Chinese Communist Youth League, he attended the Beijing 2022 Olympic Torch Relay and showed the youthful spirit of YSU students to the world.

Wang Shaowei is an enthusiastic volunteer with a cumulative service time of more than 200 hours. He co-founded the volunteer service project, ”Love Time Bank," which was awarded as an "Excellent Campus Culture Construction Project of Universities in Hebei Province.During his tenure as the rotating president of the YSU Student Union, Wang Shaowei solved more than 1,000 cases involving the students' study and life through coordination. As a student deputy secretary of the Communist Youth League Committee of YSU, he assisted in organizing the selection and training of YSU volunteers for the Winter Olympics. When working at the YSU Legal Aid Center, he used his professional knowledge to provide dozens of free legal consultations for students and residents near the university.

In October 2021, Wang Shaowei officially became a volunteer for the Winter Olympics. Later, he was selected as a motivation assistant who provided special volunteer services at the volunteers’ residence. He was responsible for the planning and coordination of the check-in, data collection, nucleic acid testing, assembling and departure, return and accommodating of the 142 volunteers living in the Aoxue Hotel. In less than two weeks after arriving at the residence, he issued hundreds of work notices and replies and solved dozens of problems related to the volunteers' life and work.

The youth of YSU in the new era will be the torchbearers of their striving spirit and love for their family and the country. They will carry on with their fighting spirit with great aspirations and gather vigorous strength to realize the "YSU Dream" and the Chinese Dream.

The Beijing 2022 Olympic Torch Relay was held in Beijing, Yanqing and Zhangjiakou from February 2 to 4. A total of 1,200 torchbearers from all walks of life attended the torch relay. Most of them were grassroots workers who have made outstanding contributions and are representatives of the masses.
