Yanshan University Holds Unveiling Ceremony for Institute of Carbon Peak and Neutrality Science and Technology

On the morning of April 21st, the unveiling ceremony for the Institute of Carbon Peak and Neutrality Science and Technology at Yanshan University (referred to as the “Institute of Carbon Peak and Neutrality”) was held at the Shoulv Jinglun Hotel. Among the attendees were Zhang Fujie, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Qinhuangdao Municipal Committee and Executive Deputy Mayor; Guo Yongbing, Executive Deputy Secretary-General of the Qinhuangdao Municipal Government and Director of the Financial Regulatory Bureau; Wang Zaiping, Third-level Researcher of the Qinhuangdao Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment; and Wang Dong, Fourth-level Researcher of the Qinhuangdao Municipal Development and Reform Commission attended the unveiling ceremony. Zhao Xianfeng, Secretary of the CPC Yanshan University Committee; Zhao Dingxuan, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Yanshan University Committee and President of the University; and Wang Desong, Vice YSU President and Dean of the Institute of Carbon Peak and Neutrality, also attended the opening ceremony. Zhang Fujie and Zhao Xianfeng unveil the Institute of Carbon Peak and Neutrality

During the ceremony, Zhao Dingxuan delivered a welcome speech on behalf of Yanshan University, expressing gratitude to Deputy Mayor Zhang Fujie and other leaders for their visit. He pointed out that the establishment of the Institute of Carbon Peak and Neutrality at Yanshan University is a concrete measure to implement national strategies, an important platform for the advancement of the “Double First-Class” construction, and a practical action towards serving the development of Qinhuangdao.Going forward, all departments and colleges of the University should position themselves to enhance integration of  resources, break down barriers, and accelerate the development of the Institute of Carbon Peak and Neutrality. The should also leverage development opportunities, focus on cutting-edge academic research, address local economic and social development needs, and concentrate on core scientific issues and key technologies. The goal is to promote deep integration of scientific research, education, and industry, creating new forces to drive  the development of both the University and the local area, thereby contributing to the realization of Qinhuangdao’s ambition to become a strong coastal city, a beautiful port city, and an international city in this new era.

At the unveiling ceremony, Zhang Fujie and Zhao Xianfeng jointly unveiled the Institute of Carbon Peak and Neutrality at Yanshan University.

Wang Desong presented  the development plan of the Institute of Carbon Peak and Neutrality, which focused on five aspects: background, research foundation, positioning and goals, proposed work, and opportunities and challenges. He emphasized that the will closely follow national policies, gather resources effectively from the entire university, and strive to becomean open research platform that attracts high-end talents, conducts high-level research, and delivers significant research results.

Wang Desong delivers a report

In his concluding remarks, Zhang Fujie emphasized the significance of the Institute of Carbon Peak and Neutrality as a major event in promoting the development and construction of Yanshan University, an important measure to accelerate the university’s  “Double First-Class” construction, and an important layout aligned with national strategies and the development of Hebei Province. He expressed three expectations for deepening the exchange and cooperation between Yanshan University and Qinhuangdao. Firstly, he hoped for unity and cooperation between the two sides in seizing opportunities and achieving development. Secondly, he proposed leveraging each other’s strengths and working together in scientific and technological innovation and technological cooperation. Lastly, he encouraged both sides to collarorate in  fostering talents, passing on the torch, and achieving more fruitful results.

The establishment of the Institute of Carbon Peak and Neutrality at Yanshan University is a concrete measure to implement the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress and the Third Plenary Session of the 10th CPC Hebei Provincial Committee. It is based on the new development stage, fully embraces the new development concept, actively integrates into the new development pattern, and supports and leads the development of green, low-carbon and circular economy. The University will leverage this opportunity to expand the scope of carbon peak and neutrality discipline construction and enhance its ability to serve the development of local industries.

To promote the research and development of emerging interdisciplinary sciences, Yanshan University has established four research institutes, namely, the Institute of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, the Institute of Marine Science and Engineering, the Research Institute of Health Care Industrial Technology, and the Institute of Carbon Peak and Neutrality Science and Technology. The establishment of these research institutes  facilitates the convergence and integration of relevant research fields and disciplinary resources, expands new research areas and directions, cultivates emerging interdisciplinary research areas, strengthens the training of innovative talents, constantly stimulates new driving forces, and accelerates the construction of the University’s “Double First-Class” initiative.

The unveiling ceremony was attended by the heads of the Institute of Science and Technology of Yanshan University, as well as representatives from various relevant functional departments, including the University Office, the Office of Academic Affairs, the Graduate School, the Office of Social Sciences, the Office of Human Resources, the Office of Finance, the Office of Laboratory and Asset Management, the Technology Transfer Center, and representatives from several schools, including the School of Mechanical Engineering, the School of Materials Science and Engineering, the School of Electrical Engineering, the School of Environmental and Chemical Engineering, the School of Vehicle and Energy, the School of Economics and Management, and the School of Humanities and Law..
