“Learning in China - the Sino-foreign Postgraduates Academic Forum 2023 Yanshan University” hosted by the School of International Education of YSU convened on the morning of May 12, 2023, in the Lecture Hall on the 1st floor of No.6 Teaching Building of the University's west campus. Nearly 100 representatives of Chinese and foreign postgraduates and postgraduate tutors from 11 schools of YSU attended the opening ceremony and the panel discussions. Jiang Lian, Vice Dean of the School of International Education of YSU presided over the opening ceremony. Zhao Yanzhi, Vice Dean of the Graduate School of YSU, and Zhang Wenli, Dean of the School of International Education, delivered speeches respectively.

Vice Dean Zhao Yanzhi delivers a speech
Mr. Zhao Yanzhi fully recognized the creative form of the forum. He pointed out that the international academic atmosphere created by the forum will undoubtedly galvanize postgraduate students into scientific research, improve their ability to use English, accelerate the process of international education of postgraduate students, and promote the development of the postgraduate education to its full potential.
Dean Zhang Wenli delivers a speech
Ms. Zhang Wenli extended a warm welcome to the guests, postgraduate tutors, and students present at the meeting. She encouraged international students to study and experience Chinese culture and to tell the world firsthand stories of China and YSU. She also called on the students to become practitioners of Chinese language and Chinese culture and ambassadors of cross-cultural communication, actively promote cultural communication between China and other countries, help the world understand China faster and better, and realize the diversified integration and mutual learning of students from all over the world.
Simulating the form of international academic conferences, the forum required all presentations to be given in English. The forum included three keynote speeches and 29 sub-forums presentations.

Professor Guo Xiaoqiang, Vice Dean of the School of Electrical Engineering, Professor Zheng Zhanguo, Vice Dean of the School of Foreign Studies, and Ms. Xie Yuan, Account Manager of Clarivate Plc, gave keynote speeches as special guests at the main session. Professor Guo Xiaoqiang expounded on innovative scientific research methods and how to publish high-level papers in his speech themed "On the Way of Scientific Writing and Research." Professor Zheng Zhanguo shared with the students Chinese stories and traditional Chinese culture from the perspectives of how to quickly adapt to Chinese culture, academic research, and Chinese lifestyles. In his speech, he enlightened students on how to fit into university study and life as soon as possible. Ms. Xie Yuan, focusing on Web of Science, gave a detailed introduction on how to carry out novelty searches of professional papers and how to search and quote high-level and highly cited articles, providing effective research methods for the students to learn about the research frontiers of their majors.

At the sub-forums, 29 representatives of Chinese and foreign postgraduate students were divided into three groups to make reports and give speeches on their study experiences, research directions, and research methods. Eleven graduate tutors from relevant schools evaluated and gave advice on the students' reports.
The “Learning in China”- the Sino-foreign Postgraduates Academic Forum 2023 Yanshan University is a signature event of the School of International Education. It aims to promote the cultivation of international innovative talents and the international level of YSU, create an international campus atmosphere, promote the exchanges and cooperation between Chinese and foreign postgraduate students of the University, expand the students' international vision, raise the quality of foreign postgraduate students training of the University, and build a platform for the students to share scientific research methods and academic achievements and to experience diverse cultures.
