Mr. Zhao Xianfeng, Secretary of the CPC Yanshan University Committee, and his colleagues paid a visit to Silesian University of Technology in Poland as well as teachers and students of Yanshan University European Institute on May 18, in hopes of further improving the international school running level of Yanshan University, consolidating the achievements of cooperation, and accelerating the construction of "double world class" status of the university. Relevant officials from the University Office, School of International Education, School of Information Science and Engineering, and School of Electrical Engineering were among the visiting delegation.
At Silesian University of Technology, the YSU delegation was warmly received by President Professor Arkadiusz Mężyk, Vice President Professor Marek Pawełczyk and officials of relevant schools. During the talks, Zhao Xianfeng said it was a long-wished-for meeting for both Yanshan University and Silesian University of Technology, and he hoped both sides could deepen understanding, enhance friendship and solidify the achievements of cooperation through this face-to-face exchange. Zhao introduced the history of Yanshan University European Institute and Silesian College of Intelligent Science and Engineering as well as cooperative fruits harvested by the two universities in the field of cooperative school running, and highly lauded the advanced educational philosophy and experience of Silesian University of Technology. Zhao stressed that thanks to the generous support of Silesian University of Technology and the guidance of their new development concept, Yanshan University European Institute and Silesian College of Intelligent Science and Engineering will continue to explore a path of integrating school-running characteristics of China and Europe, create a new talent highland in intelligent science and engineering, and cultivate compound high-level talents with international vision and global competitiveness.
After in-depth communication and discussions on the development prospects of the two universities, Zhao Xianfeng and Arkadiusz Mężyk signed an agreement and protocol on cooperation between Silesian University of Technology and Yanshan University to embark on the postgraduate training project in Yanshan University European Institute. The signing of the agreement marks another progress in the scale and level of YSU's overseas education, which will drive YSU's international school-running course to a new height.
The YSU delegation visited 7 teachers and 61 students of our school in Yanshan University European Institute, listened to the report from Liu Xueqiang, Executive Dean of the Yanshan University European Institute, and Hu Bingyu, counselor, on the teaching, learning and life of teachers and students in Poland. Zhao Xianfeng affirmed the fruitful achievements made by Yanshan University European Institute, and proposed three suggestions to the students. First, students should develop deep affections for the motherland. Yanshan University has always put training talents for the country at the top priority, hoping that students will reward the motherland and support their alma mater after they complete their academic study. Second, students should cherish the opportunities on hand, get improved in various aspects, and strive for a wonderful life. Third, students should take care of themselves and make sure they are safe and healthy. Zhao Xianfeng conveyed his deep gratitude to the seven teachers in Poland for their hard work, and hoped that they would continue to cultivate the students, help boost the internationalization of Yanshan University, and make all efforts to turn Yanshan University European Institute into an international name card of Yanshan University.

The cooperative ties between Yanshan University and Silesian University of Technology have been increasingly tightened since the very beginning, and three breakthroughs have been made up to date. In February 2021, Yanshan University European Institute, the first overseas school run jointly by the two universities, was approved to be established. In April 2022, Silesian College of Intelligent Science and Engineering, another international joint-venture learning institution by the two universities, was permitted to run by the Ministry of Education of China. In May 2023, Silesian College of Intelligent Science and Engineering was approved to add postgraduate education in three majors (mechanical engineering, etc.). On the basis of the above achievements, the two sides signed a cooperation agreement on the addition of postgraduation education in Yanshan University European Institute. Hence, Yanshan University’s "YSU Paradigm" of integrating undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral education in talent cultivation has started working.
In addition, the delegation also visited such universities and educational institutions as the Polish Chinese Education Foundation, University of Finance and Administration in Prague, Czech Republic, Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences in Germany, and DIPLOMA Fachhochschule Nordhessen, and they have intentions of cooperation on joint cultivation of students, running schools abroad, construction of student source bases for international students in China, scientific research cooperation, etc.
The delegation's visit has not only consolidated the existing cooperation foundation and widened the potential for the YSU to run schools in Central and Eastern Europe, but also is great significance to improving the international school running level of the university, promoting its goal of "double world class" status and serving China’s "The Belt and Road" Initiative.
