From September 10 to 13, the 18th International Conference on Innovative Computing, Information and Control (ICICIC2024) was held in Qinhuangdao, Hebei Province, organized by ICIC International, sponsored by the School of Information Science and Engineering, YSU and Hebei Yandayanruan Information System Co., Ltd. The conference was held both onsite and online, attended by over 400 experts, scholars, teachers and students from over 10 countries and regions. More than 200 Chinese scholars and over 100 international scholars participated in person.
It aims to facilitate international academic exchanges, and offer scholars, scientists and practitioners a platform to engage with their peers. At ICICIC2024, the latest research findings and hands-on experience were presented and discussed across various domains, such as innovative computing, information systems, complex systems and intelligent control, autonomous and unmanned systems, fuzzy logic, neural networks and applications, robotic systems, artificial intelligence, networks, electronic circuits and systems, communication systems, multimedia informatics, human-machine learning, data-driven decision support systems, intelligent data analysis, and computational intelligence.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Prof. Shi Yan, Chair at the Program & Steering Committee of ICICIC2024, Foreign Academician at the Engineering Academy of Japan, Professor at Tokai University, Japan, and Lecture Professor at YSU. Wen Guilin, Vice President at YSU, Ren Jiadong, General Chair at ICICIC2024 and President at Hebei GEO University, and Dongsoo Kim, General Chair at ICICIC2024 and Professor at Soongsil University, Korea, attended the ceremony and gave speeches. On behalf of YSU, Wen Guilin extended a warm welcome and sincere gratitude to all experts, scholars, teachers and students from around the world who attended ICICIC2024. He mentioned that YSU will seize the valuable opportunity to engage in international academic exchanges, forge ahead with all parties concerned, and jointly advance the development of the latest technologies in innovative computing, intelligent control, artificial intelligence and machine learning, thereby further promoting the “Double First-Class” initiative. Ren Jiadong reviewed the deep historical ties between YSU and ICIC International in his speech. He also expressed his gratitude to ICICIC2024 for providing an opportunity for the academia, scientists and practitioners to exchange thoughts, and a communication platform for researchers in innovative computing, information and control. Dongsoo Kim introduced the agenda of ICICIC2024.
Peng Shi, Academician at the European Academy of Sciences, Vice President of IEEE SMC, and Chair Professor at The University of Adelaide, and Kei Eguchi, Dean and Chair Professor at the Graduate School of Fukuoka Institute of Technology, respectively gave keynote reports named Multi-Agent Systems—Applications and Challenges and Non-Thermal Food Processing Using Underwater High Voltage Discharge.

Oral presentations on over 320 academic papers were made at parallel sessions of ICICIC2024. More than 20 world-renowned Chinese scholars and national high-level talents and young ones organized the parallel sessions. Some of them are Dong Qinxi, Academician at the Engineering Academy of Japan; Liu Zhen, Academician at the Engineering Academy of Japan; Jiang Bin, President at Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics; Hua Changchun, Vice President at Hebei University of Science and Technology; Hu Xiangpei, reviewer for major programs of the National Natural Science Foundation of China; Yu Jinpeng, Dean at the School of Automation of Qingdao University"; Li Yongming, Vice President at Liaoning University of Technology; Su Xiaojie from Chongqing University; and Sun Guanghui from Harbin Institute of Technology. Academician Wang Shuoyu, Director at the Engineering Academy of Japan, and Prof. Tong Shaocheng, President at Liaoning University of Technology, also attended ICICIC2024.

ICICIC2024 features 32 onsite parallel sessions and 8 online ones. All presentations and discussions were successfully conducted through simultaneous onsite and online exchanges, earning high praise from attendees. At the conference, YSU School of Information Science and Engineering (School of Software) arranged a team of volunteers. They remarkably fulfilled various missions, such as attendee check-in, scholar reception, press campaigns, and the provision of information consulting and parallel session services, ensuring the event ran smoothly.
On the night of September 11, an awarding ceremony was held at ICICIC2024. Liu Wenyuan, Organization Committee Chair at ICICIC2024 and Professor at YSU School of Information Science and Engineering, delivered a speech. Academician Shi Yan, Founder of ICIC International and Editor-in-Chief of ICIC Academic Journals, presented the Top Cited Paper Award 2023 to the International Journal of Innovative Computing, Information and Control (IJICIC), an SCI source journal and one of ICIC academic journals. He also celebrated the milestone of the 500th issue of the journal. Founded in 2004, ICIC International has dedicated itself to publishing international academic journals and organizing global academic conferences. Its mission is to promote academic development and enhance international scholarly exchanges, with a focus on the Asia-Pacific region. Seven papers from China, Japan, South Korea, Thailand and the Philippines secured ICICIC2024’s Best Paper Award. ICICIC2025 will take place in Japan. Kondo Akira, Director of the Tourism Bureau of the City of Kitakyushu, introduced the captivating city and invited attendees to visit. He expressed his eagerness to meet with them at ICICIC2025.

Held in Qinhuangdao, ICICIC2024 not only carries on ICIC International’s purpose to “Promote Academic Development and International Academic Exchanges,” but also enhances YSU’s reputation within both Chinese and international academic circles. The event provides an opportunity for scholars to learn more about YSU and fosters further exchanges between YSU scholars and their peers at home and abroad.
