According to the ESI (Essential Science Indicators) statistics updated by Clarivate Analytics on January 9, 2025, YSU’s engineering discipline has achieved a global top 1‰ ranking for the first time. This distinction marks a historic breakthrough for YSU, as it is the first discipline from any university or college in Hebei Province to attain this ranking, positioning it among the world’s leading academic disciplines.
The latest ESI data release, covering the period from January 1, 2014, to October 31, 2024, includes 2,662 institutions worldwide in the top 1% for engineering. YSU’s engineering discipline is positioned at the 265th rank globally. To date, YSU has five disciplines that have achieved a top 1% ranking worldwide: engineering, materials science, chemistry, computer science, and environmental science and ecology. Notably, the engineering discipline has advanced into the top 1‰ globally. All five disciplines have demonstrated a consistent upward trend in their global rankings.

Since the beginning of the “14th Five-Year Plan” period, YSU has been committed to becoming a research-oriented institution with distinctive characteristics that is preeminent within China and recognized worldwide. Furthermore, the university has seen a significant increase in academic influence and competitiveness, steady progress in international collaboration and exchanges, and enhanced capacity to serve and contribute to society.
With the engineering discipline now ranking among the global top 1‰ in ESI rankings, YSU has achieved another significant milestone in its “Double First-Class” initiative. Moving forward, the university will focus on addressing critical national concerns and exploring the frontiers of science. The university plans to refine its disciplinary structure, fostering interdisciplinary integration and further strengthening systematic and organized research efforts. By zeroing in on pivotal, emerging, and cross-disciplinary domains, and leveraging the impact of high-quality academic publications, YSU aims to constantly enhance its research abilities and global influence, forging new frontiers in the development of first-class disciplines.
