President Wang Huiyuan Meets Delegation from Aberystwyth University, UK

On the afternoon of March 6, Iain Barber, Vice President of Aberystwyth University, leads a six-member delegation on an official visit to YSU. President Wang Huiyuan meets with the delegation at the Century Building, joined by Vice President Li Chunling and representatives from the Office of International Cooperation and related schools, including the School of Mechanical Engineering, the School of Artificial Intelligence, the School of Science, and the School of Electrical Engineering.

President Wang Huiyuan extends a warm welcome to the delegation. He notes that Aberystwyth University, a distinguished UK institution, has strong academic capabilities in computer science and engineering, closely complementing YSU’s strengths in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and artificial intelligence, offering broad opportunities for collaboration. He highlights the solid foundation established through earlier exchanges on cooperation initiatives and expresses the hope that the visit will further advance substantive cooperation in joint education programs, talent cultivation, and scientific research, helping build a benchmark for China-UK higher education cooperation.

Subsequently, the two sides hold a signing ceremony and a discussion session. Li Chunling and Iain Barber sign a memorandum of understanding on behalf of the two universities, marking a new milestone in bilateral cooperation.

At the symposium, Li Chunling emphasizes YSU’s longstanding commitment to open education and its proactive efforts in advancing international exchange and cooperation. She states that YSU stands ready to strengthen collaboration with Aberystwyth University and achieve concrete outcomes in faculty and student exchange, joint research, and curriculum development. Iain Barber expresses sincere appreciation for the warm reception and outlines Aberystwyth University’s institutional characteristics, academic strengths, and international cooperation strategy. He affirms a strong commitment to further deepening cooperation with YSU. Both sides hold substantive exchanges on specific cooperation initiatives and reach broad consensus on future collaboration.

Symposium and discussion session

During the visit, the delegation tours the YSU’s History Museum, the robotics laboratory of the School of Mechanical Engineering, and the State Key Laboratory of Metastable Materials Science and Technology, gaining deeper insight into YSU’s research strength and academic achievements. Members of the delegation commend YSU’s innovation capacity and research accomplishments in engineering and technology.

The visit lays a solid foundation for advancing cooperation in greater depth and expanding areas of collaboration. Both sides agree to take the signing as a new starting point to deepen practical cooperation, promote the joint development and sharing of high-quality educational resources, and inject new momentum into China-UK people-to-people exchange and innovation.
