Academic Report: Applications & Future Trends of Robotics

About the report: With the development of computer and robotics technology, robots are providing service to families and the society, in addition to manufacturing industry.

The lecture introduces the development history of industrial robots, elaborates on the concepts and methods of adaptive robots, especially HAM (Human Adaptive Mechatronics), and interpret some questions about current research directions and applications of robotics. The lecture attaches more importance to robot applications in the field of disaster relief.

About the lecturer: Hongnian Yu, tenured professor at Bournemouth University, is an internationally renowned expert in the field of intelligent control and robotics. He obtained his Ph.D. at University of London in 1994 and fellowship at the Institution of Engineering and Technology. He used to be a teaching assistant and lecturer at YSU, a postdoctoral researcher at University of Sussex, the UK, a lecturer at Liverpool John Moores University and University of Exeter, an associate professor at University of Bradford and a professor at Staffordshire University.

He has hosted dozens of British projects and some projects supported by Natural Science Fund, EU Funds and British Royal Society Funds with the total value of more than 8 million pound (about 80 million yuan) in the UK in recent years. He has conducted joint researches with Chinese Academy of Sciences (supported by EU Funds, British Royal Society and Chinese Academy of Sciences), Shanghai Jiaotong University (supported by EU Funds), YSU, Chengdu University, Zhongyuan University of Technology and Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications. Prof. Yu has hosted and participated in more than 30 large-scale scientific research projects, including: EU 7th Framework Programme Funds, British National Engineering and Physical Sciences Funds and British Royal Society Funds. He has trained 20 doctors, 20 masters, and 11 postdoctoral researchers. He published more than 90 high-level papers in internationally top-ranking journals and 200 high-level papers at international academic conferences, including IEEE,UKACC,hindex 24, and i10-index 60.
