About the Lecturer:
Dr. Mercy Wang, born in August, 1978, obtained Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science and Technology from Xi’an Jiaotong University, Professional Master’s degree in Software Engineering and Doctor’s Degree in Robotics from Carnegie Mellon University. Wang has been one of the experts at Office of Comptroller of Currency (OCC) since 2006, academician at IBM Institute for Business Value and a principal scientist at IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center since 2007. He served as a member of IEEE in 2007, a senior member of IEEE in 2008, and judge of CVPR papers in 2008, 2009, 2013, and till 2018. Besides, Wang is an editorial board member of two top global journals: PAMI (IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence) and TIP (IEEE Transactions on Image Processing), and he has published more than 90 high-quality papers, most of which were shared at ICCV, CVPR and other conferences. Main research areas: image understanding, machine learning, expert advisor, financial counter-fraud, and risk profile.
Wang has abundant management and research experience in Fintech and AI enterprise, department, and team, including years of full-cycle project management (including XP, analysis, design, implementation, testing, documentation, and customer communication), IT strategy of enterprise, system architecture design and guidance, and training of other consultants and development engineers. Dr. Mercy led research and development teams and technical departments in large-scale projects in the United States and China, and applied Watson, CMMI, PMI, RUP, XP, IPD, and other methods to provide full cycle management and enterprise-level architecture design for AI and other fintech projects. He completed Big Data Anti-fraud System in Wells Fargo, America’s first financial Big Data project infrastructure at IBM Watson and a series of basic research work based on Idss+cv+waston. Before leaving IBM, he managed the AI and fintech project teams and departments in 9 countries.
Dr. Mercy has been the Chief Information Officer of Bank of Handan since September 2014, and he is a member of Hebei committee of Jiusan Society, candidate for “Hundred Talents Program”, a distinguished expert of Hebei Province. Wang was recruited as a visiting professor at Xi’an Jiaotong University in 2010, professor and Ph.D. supervisor for computer vision lectures at Tsinghua University in July 2017, and professor for robotics and intelligent machine labs lectures at University of California, Berkeley in 2009.
About the Lecture:
This lecture will explain how AlphaGo Zero uses the Whiteboard learning, Resnet, MCTs and other technologies to settle the self-learning process with no experience under the combined framework of Polic Network and Value Network. Besides, it will introduce how the latest deep learning method realizes the evolution of machine perception towards machine cognition, and the current research direction of Dr. Mercy’s team application in deep learning. As the speaker has served as the editorial board of SCI Journals for many years, he will share the experience of writing academic papers.
